Verdict — Great Hardware, Weak Performance-Per-Dollar
The Yoga Pro 9 16 G10 model itself is worthy of the "Pro" moniker enough to win our Top Rated award badge. Its high quality design, materials, and display options can stand toe-to-toe with other flagship prosumer models like those from the Dell XPS series, HP Spectre series, or even the Razer Blade series in many respects. Unfortunately, the lower-end RTX 5050 configuration is arguably not the sweet spot for most as it is only slightly cheaper than the next step up while being much slower for poorer performance-per-dollar.
Even worse, opting for the RTX 5050 configuration doesn't necessarily mean longer battery life or quieter fans when gaming or running heavy loads despite its slower performance. The Core Ultra 9 285H doesn't even offer much of a boost over the cheaper Core Ultra 7 255H, but SKUs with the latter CPU are sadly more difficult to find in the US. Running temperatures may be cooler, but this slight advantage pales in comparison to the longer list of drawbacks against the more worthwhile RTX 5060 option.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
The Yoga Pro 9 16 Gen 10 is a flagship prosumer laptop from Lenovo comparable to the Dell XPS 16 or HP Envy 16 in terms of power envelope and target audience. The model is available with Intel Arrow Lake-H CPUs and three 100 W Nvidia GPU options including the GeForce RTX 5050, 5060, and 5070. After having tested both the RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 configurations, let's see how the lower-end RTX 5050 option compares to the rest of the SKUs and if it's worth considering despite the slower performance.

Testing Conditions
We set Windows to Performance mode and graphics to dGPU mode prior to running the benchmarks below. Advanced Optimus is supported but not G-Sync as the Yoga Pro 9 16 is not primarily for gaming.
Processor
The Core Ultra 9 285H offers no major performance benefits over the lesser Core Ultra 7 255H configuration. Indeed, even their differences on paper are only 100 to 300 MHz apart for no real-world distinctions in the Yoga Pro 9 16 G10.

Stress Test
When running Cyberpunk 2077, our RTX 5050 would stabilize at 82 W compared to 93 W and 98 W on the RTX 5060 and 5070 configurations, respectively. As such, average GPU temperature would be noticeably lower by about 7 C. This would also explain the lower surface temperatures when gaming as well.
CPU and GPU temperatures would stabilize at the low 70 C range when gaming which is quite low for a thin gaming laptop. The MSI Stealth 16, for example, would reach much closer to 80 C under similar gaming conditions.

GPU Performance
The mobile RTX 5050 is roughly 15 to 25 percent slower than the RTX 5060 configuration or about 35 percent slower than the RTX 5070 configuration. Raw performance is on par with the older mobile RTX 4060 albeit without Blackwell exclusive features like multi-frame generation support. Perhaps most importantly, the RTX 5050 doesn't come with less VRAM than even the mobile RTX 5070 option.
Dropping from Performance mode to Balanced mode entails no notable performance deficit. Note that graphics performance is preserved more effectively on battery power when compared to laptops with faster RTX 5070, 5080, or 5090 GPUs where a deficit of 40 percent or more is common.

Gaming Performance
Demanding titles run well at 1080p and even up to the native 2K+ 1800p resolution provided that DLSS4 is supported. Cyberpunk 2077, for example, averages 55 FPS on Ultra 2K settings with DLSS4 enabled or just 46 FPS without.

System Noise
Fan noise when gaming reaches the same maximum of ~51 dB(A) as the faster RTX 5060 or 5070 configurations. However, it takes slightly longer to reach the maximum with our RTX 5050 configuration and so the system is able to run quieter for longer before needing to ramp up the fans.

Temperature
Surface temperatures when running demanding loads are noticeably cooler than what we recorded on the RTX 5070 configuration. Hot spots when idling on Cyberpunk 2077 would reach just over 35 C and 42 C on the keyboard deck and bottom cover, respectively, compared to 42 C and 46 C on the faster RTX 5070 unit.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 34.4 °C / 94 F, compared to the average of 36.9 °C / 98 F, ranging from 21.1 to 71 °C for the class Multimedia.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 41.4 °C / 107 F, compared to the average of 39.2 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 25.6 °C / 78 F, compared to the device average of 31.3 °C / 88 F.
(+) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 29.4 °C / 85 F, compared to the average of 31.3 °C / 88 F for the class Multimedia.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 26.2 °C / 79.2 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(+) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.7 °C / 83.7 F (+2.5 °C / 4.5 F).

Energy Management
Power Consumption
Consumption can be as low as 7 W when on iGPU mode with the screen set to minimum brightness or over 22 W if on dGPU mode and maximum brightness. When gaming, however, the system would only draw just a few watts less than the much faster RTX 5060 or 5070 options. Upgrading to the RTX 5060 configuration, for example, would draw just 6 percent more power for 20 to 30 percent faster gaming performance.
The RTX 5050 SKU ships with the same 170 W AC adapter as the other configurations as all three GPUs are rated for up to 100 W on the Yoga Pro 9 16 G10.
