Portable & whisper-quiet. Huawei's MateBook D 15 office laptop convinces with a low price of 549 Euros, remains exceptionally quiet with high system performance, and offers a chic metal casing with a sufficiently bright matte IPS display. The keyboard and touchpad of the very portable 15.6-inch notebook are also convincing, but the fast LPDDR4X RAM is not expandable.

Humble integrated graphics with a punch. Even without a dedicated GPU, the VivoBook S15 manages to deliver performance rivalling that of some entry-level gaming laptops. It hardly gets any cheaper. The GeoFlex 140 is a convertible that is offered for less than 200 Euros (~$218) at some shopping events. You do not get much performance for that, but you get a 2-in-1 laptop with Windows 11 Home license and one year of Microsoft Office 365. If you get both via Microsoft, they already cost more than the convertible.

Now without a stereo jack. Microsoft is now offering the Surface Pro 9 with either Intel or Qualcomm CPUs. The updated Alder Lake-U processor offers significantly more CPU power and the convertible now supports Wi-Fi 6E, but the stereo jack has been dropped.

Room for improvement. With a Core i5-12500H CPU and a GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU, all current titles look smooth on the matte FHD screen (300 Hz). The CPU and GPU are accompanied by a fast PCIe-4 SSD (1 TB), 16 GB of RAM, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. A copy of the Windows operating system is not included.

Better than the X1 Carbon. Lenovo refuses to offer its X1 models with AMD CPUs - perhaps there is an exclusive contract with Intel. The next best model with the AMD Ryzen 6000 is the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3. Even though it is positioned below the X1 Carbon in Lenovo's lineup, it is better in many ways.

Two performance cores for 15-Watt CPUs. Intel’s Alder Lake-U chips in the 15W segment are primarily designed for thin and light laptops. However, there can be massive performance differences depending on the implementation and it does not always make sense for the manufacturers to use U-series CPUs, either.
