Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 release preview has arrived with Copilot app, Wi-Fi 7 and HDR wallpapers

Microsoft has published the Windows 11 24H2 release preview, bringing the major operating system update a big step closer to the release of the final version. Windows Insiders can already install the update now, as usual directly via the Windows system settings after selecting the release preview channel.

If you are interested in trying out the new Windows version in advance, you can register for the Windows Insider program free of charge. Alternatively, the release preview version of Windows 11 24H2 can also be downloaded as an ISO. However, the most exciting new features are only available on the devices based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, including Recall, Auto Super Resolution, image generation in Paint, and live translations. Microsoft requires an NPU with a performance of at least 45 TOPS for these functions, so Copilot+ features should also be available on next-generation Intel and AMD PCs in the future.

Users of other PCs will at least receive an improved Copilot, which will be distributed as an app instead of as a fixed component of Windows. This not only allows users to remove Copilot from the system if required but also allows them to freely position and resize the Copilot window. In addition, Windows 11 24H2 officially supports Wi-Fi 7 and Sudo for Windows for the first time. Desktop background images can be displayed in HDR after the update, and files can be compressed directly in Explorer as 7-zip or TAR.
