New Windows 11 update simplifies PC and Android file sharing

Quick Share makes it easier to wirelessly share files between your PC and Android phone. It's a simplified file-sharing feature that was first released on Samsung devices but later merged with Google's Nearby Share. Since then, Google has been improving the experience, and now Microsoft has introduced a new dedicated icon in the Windows Share pop-up to simplify the process.

This new addition is currently available on the Windows 11 beta channel. If you're in the Insider Program and have the Preview Build 22635.3785 installed, you will see the new "My Phone" icon in the Windows Share pop-up when attempting to share something. You can click on this icon to quickly initiate a file transfer.

However, you need to note that both your PC and phone must be paired to see this icon on Windows 11. You will also need to get Phone Link installed on the computer and Link to Windows app installed on Android (128 GB Pixel 8 curr. $549 on Amazon). With these done, you should be seeing the new sharing feature on your Windows 11 Preview build.

Now, even though the feature is available to a limited number of users, the fact that it has made it to the beta channel means we will see a wider rollout soon. Also, the latest Windows 11 Preview Build isn't just about this new icon.
