Although not even mentioned by Statcounter's desktop market reports, Brave is slowly but surely going up. In May, it broke its previous records with almost 79 million active users, as well as roughly 29 million daily active users. Brave Search also hit new peaks, exceeding 843 million monthly queries.

If everything works well, Brave Browser will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2026. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, this piece of code is known for its excellent built-in ad-blocking capabilities and focus on privacy. Although it has less than 1% of the global market, it is good to know that this underdog continues to climb month after month at a rather steady pace.

According to Brave Software's CEO, Brendan Eich, May 2024 was the best month so far for Brave Browser. Compared to April, these are the new numbers and the growth values (using the historical method):

  • Monthly active users: 78.95 million (7.3% growth from 73.55 million)
  • Mean daily active users: 27.27 million (4.3% up from 26.1 million)

Brave Search, while still posing no threat to Google's supremacy and even lagging way behind DuckDuckGo, also recorded new all-time high figures. In this case, the numbers are 843.02 million (monthly search queries) and 27.25 million (28-day mean).

Eich revealed that "New users especially in Latin America, helped by getting to the top of the Google Play Store in some countries, drove browser growth." but the desktop versions also deserve some praise. While it might not be perfect yet, Brave is certainly one piece of code worth checking out.

Developers looking to deliver additional features to web browsers might find Matt Frisbie's Building Browser Extensions: Create Modern Extensions for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge a quite helpful read.
