Vivaldi 7.0 launches with updated feed reading capabilities, floating tabs, new icons, and a customizable dashboard
At the end of January 2025, Vivaldi will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Developed by a company co-founded by the former CEO of Opera Software, Vivaldi is often hailed as the most flexible web browser currently on the market, and the barely released version 7.0 comes to prove this once again. For now, the Android and iOS/iPadOS versions remain at 6.9, so the only stable release labeled 7.0 (7.0.3495.6, for those who like long numbers) is available to Vivaldi's Windows, macOS, and Linux users.
As part of the never-ending quest to give its users total control of their online experience, this major Vivaldi update comes with the following (and more):
- A redesigned interface with floating tabs alongside new icons and themes, which now also have an impact on private tabs.
- UI density settings with a compact style option for those who like to keep things tight.
- Mail, calendar, notes, tasks, and the feed reader come together in the dashboard, which is completely customizable.
- Separate feed folders in the reader, which now sports the capability to subscribe to YouTube channels without having to log in.
- The mail client gets "Jump to Latest Mail," and its name should say it all.
- Real-time synchronization of bookmarks, notes, and settings for those using Vivaldi on multiple desktop devices.
In addition to the above, new users will get an updated welcome process. Obviously, there is also a list of fixes and tweaks, which can be found at the end of the new version announcement (see the link in the Source(s) section further down this page).
Since a significant number of Vivaldi's users are power users and programmers, many of them will probably find useful Joe Attardi's Web API Cookbook: Level Up Your JavaScript Applications. This book is currently available with a massive discount, as the Kindle edition goes for $18.55 instead of $50.99, while the paperback version can be acquired for $19.80 instead of $59.99.
