The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Mobile is the fastest mobile graphics card for laptops in early 2020. It is based on the desktop RTX 2080 Super , but most likely with reduced core speeds. According to early information it will be only slightly faster than a RTX 2080 with the same TGP setting (max. 200 Watt).
According to our information there will be various versions of the 2080 Super, six versions ranging from 150 - 200 Watt TGP and different clock speeds and three Max-Q variants from 80 - 90 Watt.

NVIDIA manufacturers the TU104 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process and includes features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT), which should combine to create more realistic lighting effects than older GPUs based on the company's Pascal architecture (if the games supports it). The RTX 2080 Super is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).
The mobile RTX 2080 Super Mobile should perform only slightly better than the old mobile RTX 2080 . Therefore, it should be able to run all demanding games in 4k with maximum details. Raytracing features however may reduce framerates a lot.
The power consumption of the card can be set with 150 or 200 Watt TGP according to early information. Therefore, the normal Max-P variant is only suited for thick and heavy gaming laptops. A Max-Q variant for thin and light laptops is also planned (most likely at 80 - 90 Watt as the RTX 2080 Max-Q with similar performance).
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 Max-Q ► remove from comparison
The Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 with Max-Q Design is a professional high-end graphics card for powerful laptops and mobile workstations. The Max-Q variants are lower clocked versions that are running more efficient and can be used in smaller chassis than the regular versions. It is based on the same TU104 chip as the consumer GeForce RTX 2080 (mobile) but offers fewer shaders (2,560) and is therefore positioned between the GeForce RTX 2080 (2,944) and 2070 (2,304). Currently we know of three different Max-Q variants with a power consumption (TGP) of 90, 85 and 80 Watt and different clock speeds.

The Quadro GPUs offer certified drivers , which are optimized for stability and performance in professional applications (CAD, DCC, medical, prospection, and visualizing applications). The performance in these areas is therefore much better compared to corresponding consumer GPUs.

Performance
For professional applications, the Quadro RTX 4000 Max-Q should be only slightly above the mobile Quadro RTX 3000 (depending on the version). Compared to consumer cards, the mobile RTX 2070 will offer a similar performance (or slightly lower).
The still relatively high power consumption of the RTX4000 Max-Q makes the card most suited for big laptops although we should see thinner designs with the Max-Q variants.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q ► remove from comparison
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with Max-Q design is the power saving variant of the mobile RTX 2080 with reduced clock speeds and power consumption. Therefore, it is suitable for thin gaming laptops. It is based on the same TU104 chip is the desktop and mobile variant and offers 2,944 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 memory connected by a 256 bit interface (12 GHz).
Currently it looks like there will be two variants, a low power 80 Watt variant with 735 - 1095 MHz core clock and a faster 90 Watt variant with 990 - 1230 MHz core clock).
The clock is not the only difference compared to the regular RTX 2080 though. The drivers for the Max-Q version were optimized for efficiency (and not performance; only for Max-Q models), there are optimized voltage converters for 1V operation, high-end cooling methods, and a 40 dB limit for the fan noise (with clock adjustments to ensure this at all times).
