Farming Simulator 19 Laptop and Desktop Benchmarks
Technology
Although the graphics have improved since Farming Simulator 17, the engine that underpins Farming Simulator 19 has its shortcomings. Starting with the positives, the in-game vehicles have been lovingly designed in detail with sharp textures. Moreover, the game has an abundance of bushes, grasses and trees, which help to recreate a countryside atmosphere. However, the population density is sparse besides a few cars and trucks, and little happens in the game outside of what the player does. Adding pedestrians or roaming wildlife would have helped to create the feeling of a living world.
Speaking of details, Farming Simulator 19 has dozens of graphics settings just like its predecessors. The extended graphics menu has 20 settings with which players can tinker. There are options for image quality, resolution, scaling, image mode, brightness, field of view, V-Sync and the size of the HUD. There are also numerous presets that forgo the need to spend hours tweaking the game’s visuals. All graphics changes require rebooting the game, which thankfully does not take too long to do.
The different graphics presets make Farming Simulator 19 look noticeably different as demonstrated by the screenshots below, unlike in some other games. The main differences between presets are the quality of shadows and the degree of texture sharpness. The game scales well across different graphics settings, but the game is GPU heavy, so its performance depends largely on the GPU on which the game is running. The importance of other components like the CPU and RAM is secondary.
The game will probably only keep those who like to play Farming Simulator games interested as there is no real campaign, which is a complaint that we have had with past editions of Farming Simulator too. Moreover, the interface remains outdated, while the controls are frustratingly complicated and are poorly distributed. Also, the game will only currently run at a maximum of 2560x1440 (UHD) on external monitors even if they support 4K. Oddly, we could set the resolution to 4K on a laptop display.
Farming Simulator 19 has a 5 GB download size and takes up 10 GB of storage at the time of writing, which is economic by today’s standards. Most modern triple-A games tend to require at least 50 GB of free disk space.
Benchmarks
The game has a 60 FPS frame-rate lock by default but tweaking a few game files can disable it. If you would like the option of playing Farming Simulator 19 at more than 60 FPS, first navigate to the Documents folder in Windows and open the game.xml file using Notepad.
Then look for ‘<controls>false</controls>’ without quote marks under ‘<development>’ and change it to ‘<controls>true</controls>’. The alteration will add a frame-rate lock switch, which can be cycled by pressing F3.
The benchmark sequence that we conducted in Farming Simulator 19 is largely the same as the one we did in Farming Simulator 17. We loaded the Ravenport map and started by running from a farmhouse to a New Holland TX 32 combine harvester. We then drove the machine along a cornfield in a straight line for around 30 seconds until we reached a small hill. Harvesting is one of the more graphically demanding tasks in the game, so the sequence is a good representation of how well different GPUs and systems will handle Farming Simulator 19. An average of 40 FPS and above in the benchmark should be high enough for a smooth gaming experience generally.
Results
HD (1280x720)
Farming Simulator 19 is no performance hog despite having higher system requirements than its predecessors. The game runs comfortably on an Intel HD Graphics 630 with graphics set to the low preset and at 1280x720.

FHD (1920x1080)
We would recommend playing the game on a dedicated GPU if you want playable frame rates at 1080p though. The Intel HD Graphics 630 averages just 21.3 FPS on the medium preset, but the GeForce GTX 960M is powerful enough to play the game comfortably at these settings and even on the high preset. We would suggest using a GeForce GTX 1050 (Laptop) if you want to play the game at the highest preset at 1080p as the GeForce GTX 960M averages only 31.4 FPS.

QHD (2560x1440) & UHD (3840x2160)
Farming Simulator 19 is only playable at resolutions higher than 1080p on high-end GPUs. The game needs at least a GeForce GTX 970M to run smoothly on the highest preset at 2560x1440, while we would recommend using a GeForce GTX 1070 (Desktop) or better if you want to play at 3840x2160 on the same graphics preset.
