Huawei's major product launch of today (October 22, 2020) served to announce the Mate 40 phablet series and also several "companion" devices for it. They include the rumored FreeBuds Studio, the first ANC headphones from this line of audio products. In addition, a more compact version of the Sound X speaker made its debut.

Samsung has finally begun issuing fixes for the Galaxy S20 FE's touchscreen problems via a software update. It is roughly 174MB in size and is currently rolling out in Europe. A global release should follow suit in the coming days.

Huawei has unveiled its Mate 40 line of smartphones and its latest Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E chips. Initial benchmark data for the GeForce RTX 3070 is here, and the US$499 card can hold its own against the RTX 3080 and RTX 2080 Ti in 3DMark, Ashes of the Singularity and Geekbench. The RTX 3070 will arrive on October 29 after a two-week delay.

Apparently, AMD did not show off its flagship Navi 21 XTX version with the Ryzen 5000 CPUs earlier this month. Rumor has it that the performance metrics presented back then come from the Navi 21 SKU powering the RX 6800 XT cards and these can match the RTX 3080, but they also feature a lower price point closer to the RTX 3070.

The cancellation of these two Nvidia models that pack more than 10 GB of VRAM might allow AMD to increase its sales, since the Navi 21 SKUs are expected to get 16 GB of VRAM. The entire Huawei Mate 40 lineup has been leaked just a day before its October 22 release. It turns out that Ice Lake laptops are better for eGPU gaming than their more powerful Comet Lake-H counterparts, Jarrod's Tech has discovered. Thunderbolt 3 controller placement seems to be at the heart of the difference in performance, which can be nearly 50% in some modern triple-A games. Seemingly, Thunderbolt 3 latency matters more in eGPU gaming than high clock speeds or a superior TDP.

Acer is targeting mobile content creators with the Swift 3x. The Acer Swift 3x is powered by the latest Tiger Lake processors and features the Intel Xe Max dGPU, formerly known as DG1. Acer has released an updated version of its Spin 5 convertible notebook with 11th-generation Intel processors. It also comes with a 3:2 screen protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. Prices start at €1,099 (US$1,300) for the base variant, which will be up for grabs in December 2020.

Acer is releasing an updated mobile workstation: The ConceptD 7 Pro combines the Quadro RTX 5000 with Intel Comet Lake H. As a variant, the ConceptD 7 contains the GeForce RTX 2080 Super instead of the ISV-certified Quadro.

The CXI4 is Acer's new Chromebox with up-to-date connectivity, featuring Wi-Fi 6, USB 3.2 Gen 2 and type C ports. Therefore, it may prove an option for the processing needed in retail or learning spaces. It also has the dimensions and VESA mount necessary to hide it behind nearly any screen paired with it in these environments.

Today (October 21, 2020), Acer has unveiled its latest gaming monitors. The Predator X34 GS is the likely headline here, as it combines a 34-inch 1900R panel, a UWQHD resolution and a new stand type in one. Then again, the 24.5-inch XB253Q GW is the one with the highest (280Hz) refresh rate here. There is also a new Nitro XV272U KV which offers some attractive specs for a decent price.

Acer has released the Acer Chromebook Spin 513, its first Chromebook using the new 8 nm Snapdragon 7c chipset. The 13.3-inch model is a middle of the road 1.2 kg and 15.6 mm thick, but the design is attractive and will be appreciated by home users as well as the enterprise model being suitable for the office.

A company insider says that OnePlus is all set to release the OnePlus 9 a full month early. OnePlus is the second company after Samsung that is mulling on an early flagship release in 2021. One can only hope that OnePlus also launches the affordable Nord N100 and Nord 105G alongside its 2021 flagship.

With just a week to go before AMD's Big Navi reveal, NVIDIA announced 12 DLSS and RTX-enabled games, including sandbox epic Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord. The timing is interesting, considering the concerns about AMD's hardware ray-tracing capabilities.
