The optional Upgrades for the Apple iMac 27 are not worth it

The current Apple iMac offers a great 5K screen, a good looking aluminum case, and great speakers. However, the all-in-one struggles to utilize the full potential of the components. You should be careful with the boxes you tick when you buy an iMac.

Google is introducing 20 Gbps Internet connections over "beams of light" for Sub-Saharan countries

If satellites and atmospheric balloons are simply too expensive to boost Internet signals across the world, Google now plans to use light beams to connect underdeveloped areas. The Apple M1 SoC looks to give a tough competition to current x86 offerings. (Image Source: Apple)

Apple M1 SoC can be a real threat to x86; M1 in 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini beats Core i9 in MacBook Pro 16 but performs similarly with or without active cooling

Apple's new M1 SoC combines different components such as an 8-core CPU, an 8-core GPU, a 16-core NPU, and memory and storage controllers onto a single chip fabbed on the 5 nm process. Leaked Geekbench scores of the M1 SoC in the newly announced 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini indicate that Apple's tall claims about the M1 may be true to a large extent.

Apple's new M1-powered Macs all look exactly the same as the Intel models they replace. (Image: Apple)

Apple M1 Macs don't support eGPUs, while the new MacBook Air is offered with a less powerful 7-core GPU M1 variant

Apple’s transition to its own silicon offers exciting possibilities for the future of energy efficient, high performance computing. However, the transition won’t be without its hiccups and a lack of eGPU support moving forward looks like a relatively substantial one. The company is also following a similar path with the M1 chip as it did with the A12X and A12Z chips when it comes to the new MacBook Air.
