Reviews for the OnePlus 8 Pro
Wireless charging and IP certification in a OnePlus smartphone have finally become a reality. A 120 Hz display and a colour filter camera are other features, too. We will clarify in this review whether the OnePlus 8 Pro is worthwhile at its high price of at least US$799.
4 categories, 3 winners. The crème de la crème of Android smartphone photography in comparison: Samsung's and Xiaomi's pixel behemoths Galaxy S20 Ultra and Mi 10 Pro, a P40 Pro, and the new OnePlus 8 Pro pitted against each other to find out which one offers the best camera.
Old against new. Similar to the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, the OnePlus 8 Pro has risen to the camera elite this year. But are the differences to the previous 7T Pro big enough to be worth the high surcharge? We clarify this in our camera test for the two OnePlus smartphones.
Is the camera evolution within a year or the Hasselblad effect visible at first glance? In our blind test, the two OnePlus smartphones, OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 8 Pro, compete against each other. We will find out how big the camera differences are in this review.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is the best and most well-rounded phone the Chinese maker has ever produced, partnering simply mind-blowing speed and performance with the best display ever shipped on a smartphone and a suite of flagship features which, in part, had been missing from previous devices.

I am a OnePlus user so I won’t be biased here. OnePlus 8 Pro has got most of the things right if not all. It has wireless charging, NFC, a stunning display, and a powerful chipset under the hood. It doesn’t get many changes in terms of design though and the cameras aren’t that superb although that can be worked upon with software updates.

Finally, if you want to get the overall best premium phone from 2020, we recommend checking out the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. These days, you can find that phone for around the same price as you would have paid for a top-end OnePlus 8 Pro. That phone matches or exceeds most of the specs and features of the 8 Pro, with the notable exception of charging speeds (both wired and wireless). But if you want a big, powerful phone with a great camera system, the Note 20 Ultra won’t disappoint. OnePlus is all grown up. With the OnePlus 8 Pro, you get an unabashed flagship, with all the bells and whistles. Powerful specs, an amazing display, fast wireless charging, and water resistance make the OnePlus 8 Pro a great alternative to the Galaxy S20 Plus, and it's up to $300 cheaper.

Of course, I am not at all trying to say that the OnePlus 8 Pro is a bad phone. It most certainly is not. It has a long-lasting battery, a terrific display, and a software experience that’s near the top of its class. However, it also has a nerfed camera system, an unwieldy design, and a high probability of slow/infrequent software updates as the months go on. Unless you’re paying for it at a steep discount, there is no reason to buy this phone in 2021 when the OnePlus 9 Pro exists on the shelf right next to it.

There are a few bumps, though, on this phone that I should take note of. For instance, I did not notice this issue in my OnePlus 6T, but the OnePlus 8 Pro hangs a lot when you use Instagram. I am not a heavy user of the app, but for those who are, this phone may annoy them as it is highly noticeable.

The OnePlus 8 Pro front camera delivers solid performance for both stills and video, with quality that should be perfectly satisfying for the majority of users. However, if selfies or vlogging are central to your mobile photography, then there are a few other options up the ladder you should consider as well, but be aware that the top entry in our database costs nearly twice as much as the OnePlus at the time of this writing.

The OnePlus 8 Pro put in a strong performance for display. In many regards, it really stood out against its competitors, especially in reproducing accurate colors. It also made a strong impression for its readability in direct sunlight, a rarity among all devices. For users, smooth swiping and accuracy in the gallery app and while web browsing is a big plus. There are areas for improvement, especially around video performance, which brought down its overall score. Screen uniformity for both brightness and color could also be improved. Overall, though, OnePlus can be happy with its showing among other flagship devices.

Still, looking at the complete picture, the OnePlus 8 Pro is still a hard phone to beat in our books. It does a lot of things and it does most of them really well. And despite the increasing price tag, OnePlus is still one of the most affordable options in the premium flagship segment. This means it's still good value, which shouldn't come as a surprise as value is always relative.

For OnePlus, the transition from ‘self-proclaimed’ killer flagship to full-fledged flagship has already been made, meaning, the company has become the very thing it initially aimed to dethrone. The OnePlus 8 Pro is a no-compromise device on papers equipped with IP68 certification, Wireless charging, 120Hz refresh rate, MEMC, and more, ready to compete in the big leagues with Galaxy S20 series and iPhone 11 series.

Priced Rs 54,999 onwards, the OnePlus 8 Pro is one of the most affordable premium smartphones. Its strengths lie in software-hardware synergy, which most other phones struggle to get right. Though it has everything one expects from a premium smartphone, it does not fare exceptionally in any. At this price, however, it could be the most suitable option for someone in the market for a no-compromise premium smartphone.

Absolutely. And the reason is that this phone doesn’t put a foot wrong. Design, performance, camera and battery, screen all of them are as good. Compared to other phones, there could be minor differences here and there, but they are never big enough to matter. The fact that OnePlus gives a phone like the OnePlus 8 Pro at a price of Rs 54,999 is the cherry on the cake. At this price not only OnePlus 8 Pro is a fantastic flagship phone it is also the most affordable of all flagship phones in India. What more does a consumer need? Nothing I believe.

The OnePlus 8 Pro starts at Rs 54,999, and if the last couple of years have been any indication, it’s that people are willing to shell out this kind of money for a OnePlus device. With wireless charging, IP68 certification and a much-improved primary camera, OnePlus has smoothened the rough edges of its flagship devices. With the OnePlus 8 Pro, I have very few complaints. If you are spending over Rs 50k on a smartphone this year, the OnePlus 8 Pro makes a strong case for itself, despite the competition.

OnePlus has had a good streak over the years, but few of its phones have felt as complete as the OnePlus 8 Pro. We are now dealing with a proper flagship smartphone, the kind that can go toe-to-toe with the best out there. The 8 Pro’s audio performance bears a certain resemblance to that of the 7 Pro, especially in Playback, where it differs from the predecessor’s sub-scores by one point at the most. When it comes to recording audio, however, the 8 Pro shows a bit more independence from its older brother… but not always for the best. While the microphones deliver realistic and intelligible midrange frequencies and benefit from a better control of undesirable artifacts, the Volume sub-score is much lower due to aggressive high-end distortions. Background recordings sound as unnatural as they did with the previous model. In short, it seems OnePlus focused all its efforts on imaging, but brought too few evolutions to its flagship’s sound abilities.

This is the OnePlus 8 Pro, the company's showcase of what it's like to lead with speed, and really, and what I'd call, the company's first-ever true flagship, that's still priced a tad below than the phones it trying to compete with. This phone actually felt more baked than the OnePlus 8 when I first started testing, but it's received the same exact software updates, so let's see if it does live up to the major leagues. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the biggest, meanest, and best smartphone OnePlus has put out thus far. At least that’s what it aims to be. It features a fantastic set of cameras, a big, gorgeous, 120 Hz AMOLED screen, the fastest possible hardware on an Android phone, and an impressive battery. But do you need to spend $900 for it, when the OnePlus 8 delivers a similar experience for $700? Well, the 8 Pro’s camera is definitely an improvement over its cheaper sibling, but it also has a bunch of quirks that you may or may not like. The Pro is slightly bigger, it’s noticeably heavier, and its speakers are virtually the same. Indeed, I’d say that if you don’t insist on that slight camera upgrade, you can save yourself $200.

OnePlus finally made a proper flagship phone without the little issues and missing features we've come to expect. Except that it’s so high end that I certainly can’t dismiss it. The OnePlus 8 Pro blows past the need for character and charm – think of it as a Formula 1 car – it doesn’t need to stand out on style when it’s so damned fast.

OnePlus’s first attempt at a fully featured flagship presses all the right buttons, and there really isn’t anything missing here. The lack of a fancy telephoto camera might disappoint some, but 30W wireless charging and an IP68 rating are welcome OnePlus firsts. The OnePlus 8 Pro may not be perfect, but there’s something here for everyone, and little that’s lacking. You’ll have to look elsewhere if you like your phones compact, but otherwise right now this is the best phone you can buy at this price - and still better than several that cost more.

Of the two new flagship phones from Chinese phone-maker OnePlus, the OnePlus 8 Pro is the higher-end device. In addition to 5G, which both phones have, it has IP certification for water resistance, a total of four cameras -- one at 48 megapixels -- and a bigger, 120Hz display. Available starting April 22, it's also pricier at $899 (£799) for 128GB storage and $999 (£899) for 256GB. (Australian prices aren't yet available, but £799 converts to roughly AU$1,570.) That said, the $899 starting price isn’t the same bang-for-your-buck deal that the $669 7 Pro was, especially when you consider that it’s limited to just one color, green. While the OnePlus 8 Pro is by far the best smartphone the company has ever built, it’s also the least compelling device we’ve seen from them since the OnePlus X. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the phone, it’s a flagship device with specs and pricing to match what the competition has to offer. But the company has lost sight of the fact that many people flocked to the brand simply because they didn’t want to pay the premiums that other brands were charging. Adding insult to injury is the recent revelation that the phones are $100 to $150 cheaper in markets like India and China.

The flagship killer has become the flagship, and I aint even mad. OnePlus has come out swinging with this higher price point. Massive camera sensors, and Big wireless charging pads make this $899 dollar phone worth a look. Directly comparable to its thousand dollar counterparts like Samsung and iPhone's. The OnePlus 8 Pro is a f*cking great phone. You will pay a price for it that you might not be used to for OnePlus phones, but the company is now producing phones without any of the catches of old. The camera has caught up. The wireless charging is faster than everyone else’s. The design is so dialed in. The performance and software are still excellent. It doesn’t really have flaws.

Of the 2 new flagship telephones from Chinese phone-maker OnePlus, the OnePlus 8 Pro is the higher-end gadget. In addition to 5G, which each telephones have, it has IP certification for water resistance, a complete of 4 cameras — one at 48 megapixels — and an even bigger, 120Hz show. Available beginning April 22, it is also pricier at $899 (£799) for 128GB storage and $999 (£899) for 256GB. (Australian costs aren’t but obtainable, however £799 converts to roughly AU$1,570.) The OnePlus 8 begins at $699 (£599).

As with past generations of OnePlus devices, the OnePlus 8 Pro and 8 have super-fast charging, branded as Warp Charging. From a completely drained battery, 15 minutes of charging juiced the phone up to 32%, which is impressive. A half hour yielded 62% and by an hour the phone was at 95% power. When I used the OnePlus' new wireless charger, the phone charged at about the same rate.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a talented phone with every feature you could reasonably expect for a phone of its price. Its screen is lovely, and new wireless charging support rounds off an impressive, flagship-worthy spec sheet. Its sound quality isn’t quite as good as some of its rivals, though, and it is a touch below Samsung standards in camera and screen performance too. For the first time, these minor deficiencies cannot be masked by a lower price tag.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a proper flagship phone. No more cutting corners. No more 'flagship killer' underdog mantra. OnePlus is now officially mixing it with the biggest names in mobile. It means the 8 Pro is also its most expensive handset to date, but there's plenty of bang for your buck to justify the cost - plus it's still a shade cheaper than rival Samsung, Apple and Huawei smartphones.

Every year since 2014, OnePlus has released a new smartphone, and nearly every year it’s raised the price. That in turn has caused reviewers like me to ask, “is it worth the extra money?” … and for the past six years, the answer, time and again, has been yes. This is different. To be clear, I’m not saying the OnePlus 8 Pro doesn’t earn its asking price, which is $899. And we should remember that it’s not the first OnePlus to hit this threshold either: the McLaren edition of last year’s 7T Pro was priced the same. But if we ignore special edition phones and directly compare, generation to generation, what’s available here in the States … the OnePlus 8 Pro is a $230 jump from last year’s 7 Pro. That’s a lot. To some it’s evidence of OnePlus losing touch with its core values, sacrificing its status as smartphone value hero and finally "becoming the villain." Does this argument hold up, or is OnePlus finally just coming into its own? Find out in the MrMobile OnePlus 8 Pro Review!

The OnePlus 8 Pro features an excellent display, with 1300 nits of brightness, HDR10+ support, 10 bit colors, 120hz refresh rate and more! It also allows you to use the fully 1440P resolution while at the 120hz mode. Instead of the motorized selfie camera, it now moves onto a very small hole-punch camera on the front. It also packs the Snapdragon 865 SoC on ALL of the models worldwide, unlike some other brands.. It now features 30 watt wireless charging for the first time, along with IP68 water resistance! In this video, we compare these features to Samsung's S20 line of smartphones, as well as to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and more!

OnePlus is back again with the OnePlus 8 Pro. This time pulling out the stops with a killer wireless charger (That'll be fun to see the insides of) And a 10bit screen. Not every pixel is the same when it comes to smartphones. 8bit pixels dont show as much color as 10bit pixels. And this 'professional' phone is actually using a 'professional' grade screen that professionals actually use for their profession. I'm impressed.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is an impressive and well-designed Android smartphone that doesn't upend the traditional OnePlus formula so much as extend it to its logical place in the 2020 canon — more features, higher price. With the addition of an impressive primary camera, waterproofing, and wireless charging, though, OnePlus has finally checked all of the boxes on its spec sheet.

It is now competing in the same space as the top-league players like the Galaxy S20, iPhone 11 Pro, and the LG V60 ThinQ 5G. However, as the price of OnePlus phones carries on rising, we have to be more critical about the bad bits. Other high price phones last longer between charge and rivals are much better at taking photos of other people’s pets, which these days is more important than being able to make phone calls.

Glacial Green and Onyx Black will be available in [8GB RAM + 128GB ROM] and [12GB + 256GB] iterations for $899 and $999 USD, respectively. The OnePlus 8 Pro doesn't lean on gimmicks the way other 2020 flagship phones do, so it might not seem as immediately interesting. Don't be fooled, though: Between its excellent performance, well-thought-out software and one of the best smartphone screens we've ever seen, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a fantastic smartphone that's well worth the price of admission. Don't assume everything is perfect here -- some of the company's camera choices are questionable and a slightly bigger battery would've gone a long way. Even so, the 8 Pro stacks up surprisingly well against the best the industry has to offer, and is well on its way to becoming a fan-favorite.

Both phones have very good cameras, however the 8 Pro is in a different class. The images are rich, warm and so clear. Although you’ll find that most shots are set to 12 megapixels (by default) on both phones to allow for zooming, there’s a sharpness to the shots on the 8 Pro which really shows through here.

While the overall update isn’t huge, this is an excellent Android phone with one of my favourite displays out there, software that might just be better than Googles and a very respectable camera. The addition of highly-requested features like Qi charging and an IP rating is also welcome, especially as OnePlus has held out against adding them for so long.

I really like a lot of what OnePlus is doing with the OnePlus 8 Pro. Display performance matters a lot to smartphone buyers, and it doesn't get any better than this. The OnePlus 8 Pro is also a fast, smooth phone with terrific software and a smart selection of cameras. If you're in a place where you think you won't get 5G anytime soon, or you're on T-Mobile and don't feel you need the S20 line's somewhat more advanced camera features (such as 8K recording), this is a better value than the Samsung Galaxy S20+ or the LG V60.

Qualcomm Adreno 650: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 640 in the Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers 50% more compute units (ALUs). For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2020.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

SD 865: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in late 2019 and manufactured in 7 nm at TSMC (improved N7P). Integrates one “Prime Core” based on a ARM Cortex-A77 architecture clocked at up to 2.84 GHz. Three more performance cores are also based on the A77 but clock up to 2.42 GHz. Furthermore, four energy saving cores are integrated that are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture and clock at up to 1.8 GHz. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 6 modem (including 60 GHz mmWave support), a Hexagon 698 DSP (up to 15 TOPS) and a Spectra 480 ISP. The integrated memory controller now supports faster LPDDR5 memory with up to 2,750 MHz. LTE is not included anymore in the SoC, but the external Snapdragon X55 5G modem has to be used.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
