87.8% OnePlus 9 vs. OnePlus 8T smartphone camera comparison: Is Hasselblad the winner or is it OIS? | Notebookcheck
After several camera updates and just in time for the market launch of the OnePlus 9, we compare the cameras of the latest high-end phones from OnePlus. Our review features the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 8T. Although the 2021 model has a Hasselblad-branded camera setup on the back, it lacks the OnePlus 8T's IOS.
100% OnePlus 8T review: The best OnePlus yet
Source: Expert Reviews English
Without significant forward steps in the camera department you’d think it might be tough to get too giddy over the release of the OnePlus 8T but far from it. There are improvements in enough other areas that the 8T just about edges in front of our current favourite mid-range phone, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. The OnePlus 8T has a nicer design and feel to it and a longer-lasting, faster-charging battery. Although the camera isn’t quite up to the S20 FE’s standards, it’s not far behind, plus you have the bonus of decent macro and monochrome photography options, as well. With the only significant weaknesses being a lack of dust and water IP rating and no microSD slot, the OnePlus 8T makes a strong case for itself as the finest mid-range smartphone money can buy. If you’re looking to spend around £549 on a smartphone, this is the one to beat.

When I first got my hands on the OnePlus 8T, I really wanted to love it. I thought OnePlus was going to take the best parts of the high-end OnePlus 8 Pro and return to its roots by making a serious flagship-killer, especially after the underwhelming OnePlus 8. But the $749 price tag is too much, given the competition, and disappointing camera performance has made the OnePlus 8T a letdown. Build quality, performance, and 120Hz display are serious high points for the OnePlus 8T. But I don’t think it really marks a major upgrade over the OnePlus 7T from last year. It’s a bit faster in benchmarks, but in real-world use that doesn't make a huge difference. And I don't think a jump from a 90Hz display to 120Hz is worth the price of an upgrade.

OnePlus 8T Battery review: Great boosts of power
Source: DxOMark English
The OnePlus 8T with its 65W charger provides both overall fast charging and great quick boosts of power. Where it falls a bit short is in autonomy, particularly in comparison with the Mi 10T Pro, where the 8T lags behind by more than half a day in average use. However, the tradeoff between autonomy and charging among the three phones results in a virtual tie, with the OnePlus only one point behind the Xiaomi and 3 points ahead of the Oppo in the high-end segment.

OnePlus 8T revisited: The good and bad six months later
Source: Android Authority English
At the end of the day, it’s pretty hard to recommend the OnePlus 8T. This is especially the case considering that the OnePlus 8 Pro is now discounted to $699 and the OnePlus 9 retails for $729. Six months later, the OnePlus 8T sits at an awkward price point, offering a great user experience at the sacrifice of good camera performance and a few key essentials for any modern, value-centric flagship.

OnePlus 8T Selfie review: Not flashy, but functional
Source: DxOMark English
The OnePlus 8T, while not earning sterling scores for its front camera, produces decent selfies within its limits. Especially outdoors and at optimal focal distance (30 cm to 50 cm), it captures sharp, well-exposed selfies, even if there tends to be strong luminance noise in low-light conditions. Its limitations show up at greater distances because of the fixed-focus lens. Selfie-stick devotees may be disappointed because of slightly out-of-focus images at longer distances. The limited depth of field could be an issue for those seeking to present detailed backgrounds. The camera also has some limitations in lower light situations. Video performance is adequate but not spectacular.

The lack of a dedicated tele-camera means it’s best to limit yourself to small doses of tele-zoom to avoid too much loss of detail. The ultra-wide camera is a good option when you need a wider field of view to capture a scene, but noise and image artifacts mean it’s not for image quality perfectionists.

97% OnePlus 8T review: It will make you reconsider buying an iPhone
Source: Techaeris English
I haven’t been this excited for an Android phone in a very long time. I purchased the very first OnePlus phone years ago and thought it was good, nothing special, just good. Coming back to check them out again after all these years really surprised me, in a good way. While I still think the other Android options on the market are viable and really great for their user base. The OnePlus 8T really ticked all the requirements for me personally. It has amazing battery life, excellent cameras, a silent switch, the ability to use custom icon packs, and the user interface is elegant and well thought out. Like anything else, the OnePlus 8T isn’t for everyone. But iPhone users take note. Suppose you’re considering upgrading to a new iPhone but have also wondered about Android. The OnePlus 8T is the perfect phone for you to dip your feet into. Most of this phone will feel familiar to you, and I think you’ll really enjoy it.

That said, we still stand by OnePlus goal of trying to bring an affordable, flagship-performing device to the masses. Just look at its street price. For S$899, you can get the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant, or pick up the 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM version at just S$1,099. Those sticker prices are really hard to beat - so much so that OnePlus struggled to pick features on the 8 Pro for diluting or leaving out on the 8T. Bargain hunters have no excuse but to keep this budget flagship phone squarely on their radars.

When the OnePlus 8 made its debut earlier this year, I said that recommending it was a little difficult, especially seeing how the OnePlus 7 Pro would have been a better choice, primarily due to its camera performance. In a way, the creation of the OnePlus 8T is essentially the brand’s response and, quite possibly, way of making amends for what its predecessor was lacking.

OnePlus 8T Review: It’s Nearly Perfect
Source: Gear Diary English Archive.org version
Dan and I both bought the OnePlus One when it came out in 2014, and over the years I have owned many of their later models. I’ve watched the OnePlus’s devices become even better over time, and while there’s been a big price shift from the $299 that the original OnePlus One sold for to the nearly $1000 that their latest phones have cost, for the most part, I’ve felt it was justified. Where in the not too distant past, I might have loved the hardware but hates the camera, OnePlus has really stepped up. OnePlus continues to offer better features, faster speeds, larger RAM, and glorious displays with some of the fastest refresh rates available at any price. I can manage without wireless charging and Wi-Fi calling, but if those features were ever available on this device, I would call it perfect.

With very little to differentiate the OnePlus 8T and its OnePlus 8 predecessors, it’s hard to justify why the company needs to put this variant out. So do I recommend the OnePlus 8T? I sure do. It is my favourite mid-ranger for the year and punches well above its weight. Available in Aquamarine Green or Lunar Silver (plus there is now a limited edition Cyberpunk 2077 Edition) you can pick one up for less than $900 from Kogan and other suppliers with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 12GB/256GB version will of course cost you more.

Keeping up with the tradition, OnePlus launched the ‘T’ version of the OnePlus 8 series in India a few weeks back. The OnePlus 8T is similarly spec’d as its predecessor, but, it carries few upgrades too – 65W charger, a 200mAh battery bump-up, 5MP macro camera, 2MP depth camera and 120Hz display. However, the upgrades becomes meaningful only if it’s implemented right.

Aside from wireless charging, it’s really tough to point out any compromises that OnePlus made here. 86% OnePlus 8T review: 5G, 120Hz display and excellent camera, but the price isn't right
Source: CNet English Archive.org version
At time of writing, OnePlus has lowered the prices of the 8 and 8 Pro by $100. Going by the same memory configuration across all three phones (12GB of RAM and 256GB storage), the OnePlus 8 costs $700 and is $50 cheaper than the OnePlus 8T. Maybe if you're already paying $700, that extra $50 won't matter all that much to you. In that case, feel free to nab the 8T. But if you want to save as much as you can, get the OnePlus 8. Sure, you won't get that 120Hz refresh rate, but it's still a superb phone with a great battery life and a smooth 90Hz display. Though April may feel like a long time ago, the notion that the OnePlus 8 is an "old" phone just hasn't settled in yet. And with its new lowered price, it's the more compelling pick.

OnePlus 8T review second opinion: A long-time OnePlus fan weighs in
Source: Android Authority English Archive.org version
Let me once again reiterate that the OnePlus 8T isn’t objectively a bad phone. If you have $750 to spend and you want a good phone, the 8T is a decent option. However, the only reason I would actually suggest someone spend $750 on it is if they absolutely needed a OnePlus phone with 65W charging. If you don’t need 65W charging, you can choose from many other OnePlus phones for half the price and a similar experience. If you aren’t already sold on buying a OnePlus phone, well — there are a whole lot of competitor phones you should check out before you commit.

But with so many OnePlus phones and so few differences between models, it does feel that the big Never Settle idea has started to water down and OnePlus would benefit from a more focused approach to take on the big guys.

OnePlus 8T Review: What Happened To NEVER SETTLE?
Source: Pocketnow English Archive.org version
The problem is when the strategy changes. This is not like the more affordable OnePlus 7T that disrupted the fall of 2019. Actually, it's the complete opposite, being more expensive and actually dated in certain ways. I know, this is not what you were expecting to hear about a OnePlus device, and here's the thing, neither was I. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive in to our full review sponsored by Private Internet Access. In other respects, the OnePlus 8T finally ended the three-generation 30W fast charging solution. The 65W wired fast charging has doubled the charging experience. Within 30 minutes, the OnePlus 8T 5000mAh battery has changed from 2. The% battery is returned to 95%, and the supporting C to C charging cable can also be compatible with 45W PD to charge the computer, which is very careful.

The OnePlus 8T doesn’t change the game – particularly if you bought OnePlus 8 – but it is another great handset from the brand, with a stunning display, a unique look, good battery life and a camera that impresses. If you’re looking for a handset that’s a touch cheaper than most top-end phones, but still offers plenty of premium features, you’ve found it.

This premium hardware includes a silky 120Hz display and four cameras on the back. It also comes with a beefy 65-watt charger that juices up the phone quickly. The OnePlus 8T has a few software updates, too, including an always-on display and a refreshed interface, which will roll out to other OnePlus phones.

Other than that, while not perfect, the OnePlus 8T is easily likable. It might even be love at first sight if you spent 10 minutes with its fluid Oxygen and fluid screen. We can't recommend it to any OnePlus 8 user, but we can encourage everyone else looking for a €600 or so phone - it is definitely among our top three picks, along with the Mi 10T Pro and the Galaxy S20 FE.

OnePlus has done it again: a superb smartphone at a very appealing price point. Although it has one or two weaknesses, and doesn't improve on its predecessors in any major way, the all-round package of the OnePlus 8T (and its retail price) mean that this is a winner.

OnePlus 8T review: Fine upgrade, but not yet there as a premium smartphone
Source: Business Standard English Archive.org version
Priced Rs 42,999 onwards, the OnePlus 8T goes for a cheaper price tag than the OnePlus 8, despite bringing several major upgrades over predecessor. It makes a good value-for-money smartphone in the OnePlus line-up, but not when compared with other smartphones in the same segment. The OnePlus 8T’s generic design, mediocre cameras, and lack of wireless charging and ingress protection rating pull it behind competing smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (review). Though the upgrades make it a worthy seasonal refresh, which is also apparently cheaper, the phone still does not seem to plug the midrange-premium gap.

86% OnePlus 8T review: This phone brand can't compete with itself
Source: CNet English Archive.org version
OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 8T, a $749 5G phone that fits right in between the $699 OnePlus 8 ($699 at Amazon) and $899 OnePlus 8 Pro ($999 at OnePlus), which were released in April. (The OnePlus 8T's UK price of £549 converts to about AU$1,000.) The OnePlus 8T has a similar design to the 8, but carries over some of the better specs of the 8 Pro.

The OnePlus 8T comes with a slew of great features including 5G, superfast charging and a lovely display. But it's the cameras on the back that I'm most interested in, so I was excited to get the phone in my hand and take it on a walk through the orange leaves of Edinburgh in the fall.

After the slightly underwhelming OnePlus 8, all eyes will be on the OnePlus 8T to fix many of its shortcomings. Well, the OnePlus 8T does introduce many changes, but still leaves out many of the features we were hoping to see such as an IP rating or even wireless charging. OnePlus' decision to leave these features out is quite frustrating, but also perhaps understandable, since you don't want a new phone to steal the thunder away from an existing flagship. This is what happened to the OnePlus 8 when the Nord was launched, and I don't think OnePlus wants to make the same mistake again.

I’m still testing the OnePlus 8T and will update this review when I’m finished, but the results so far leave a strong impression. For $749, you’re getting the specs, design, and performance of a thousand-dollar flagship. It even stands up to the $799 iPhone 12, at least on paper.

The OnePlus 8T is a good upgrade for all OnePlus users who are on phones that came before the OnePlus 7. In fact, I won’t be surprised if OnePlus 8 buyers feel a bit shortchanged after this one because it is, by all means, a better phone, coming just months after they got theirs. OnePlus has tried its best to leave some edge for the OnePlus 8 Pro, but this clearly comes in the middle. In fact, with the performance of the past Ts, the OnePlus 6T, 7T and now the 8T, consumers might just be inclined to wait for this and not buy the base model, which also faces heat from the more affordable Nord series.

There are a number of excellent phones on the market today that the OnePlus 8T has to compete with, most notably the Galaxy S20 FE. Since then, the OnePlus has done this. The OnePlus 8T checks all the boxes for me except for the $1,100 price, which is a lot to ask for a smartphone that you can’t subsidize from a carrier. If it came in closer to $700 like the Nord, I think this would be my favourite phone of the year. But for now, it’s nice to see OnePlus release a phone that’s as stellar as this and hopefully, it can take what it’s learned and apply it to the next Nord handset.

I’ve used the phone as my main handset for a week or two now. The green model I have is cheaper than the OnePlus 8 Pro but has the same CPU, the same memory, the same storage and a smaller screen which I actually found more suitable. Sure, there’s no wireless charging, no microSD and the screen is a little different, but this is – as with all the OnePlus phones – a lot of bang for your buck. A beautiful interface, a fantastic design and an attention to detail which really is lifting this company into the limelight more and more.

OnePlus 8T
Source: PC Mag English Archive.org version
The OnePlus 8T is a good phone, to be sure, but it isn't convincingly better than the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE in enough ways to justify its higher price. While OnePlus didn't announce a US version of the OnePlus Nord along with the 8T, I hold out more hope for a version of that attractive midrange model. The Nord has a level of polish that you generally don't see in $400 phones, and with its shimmery blue back and OxygenOS 11, it could really shake up a price point that's typically dominated by duller devices. For now, our general-purpose Android pick remains the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. It has the reasonable price, long battery life, and solid zoom camera that most people want, and it's rife with trade-ins and sales that can make it an even better deal than its list price.

As a phone, the OnePlus 8T is very much a complete package. And as such, if you're looking at the phone from the perspective of a daily driver -- and not one on which to run benchmarks -- there's precious little you can fault it for. Design, display, cameras and performance, on all the OnePlus 8T scores well. Yes, there might be some better phones out there, but they are phones like the OnePlus 8 Pro that cost more. As a well-balanced phone, with good pricing, the OnePlus 8T is another phone from OnePlus that will delight users.

OnePlus 8T hands-on review
Source: GSM Arena English Archive.org version
As such, we only reserve our recommendation of the OnePlus 8T to those for whom the camera isn't a priority. It has plenty of qualities that still make it a good smartphone. However, it's not the most well-rounded phone in its price range, and as weird as it feels to say this, the OnePlus 8T is outclassed in value by the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

OnePlus 8T Review: A Great 5G Phone In Search Of A Discount
Source: Hot Hardware English Archive.org version
With the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro now being discounted ($599/$799) and Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE shipping widely ($700), the 8T’s value proposition drops even further. We know OnePlus can do better -- the lovely OnePlus Nord is basically a OnePlus 8 with a Snapdragon 765G for €399. As such, it’s disappointing to see the company miss the mark on the 8T’s price, and we can only hope for future deal pricing to improve this picture. In addition, hopefully the rumored OnePlus Nord (US edition) puts the “plus” back into OnePlus.

On paper, the OnePlus 8T looks like a bigger improvement over the OnePlus 8 than it actually is. OnePlus 8T review: More power, smaller phone
Source: Engadget English Archive.org version
Even though the OnePlus 8T is a mid-cycle model for the company, it impresses. It is very much a downsized OnePlus 8 Pro, inheriting the same screen refresh rate and almost-identical battery size, but puts it in a smaller, easier-to-hold package. There’s even 65W fast charging, which has been one of my favorite smartphone technological breakthroughs this year. All of these, combined with the slick OxygenOS 11, make for a great smartphone experience.

Comment

Model:

The OnePlus 8T is the upgraded version of the OnePlus 8. In some aspects, it even surpasses the OnePlus 8 Pro. It features an eight-core Snapdragon 865, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. This time, OnePlus has prepared two colour schemes, "Blue Field" and "Silver Time". OnePlus has also changed the rear side that has been used all the way from the OnePlus 6 to the OnePlus 8 series. Finally, the thickness and weight of the 8T are 8.4 mm and 188 g respectively, so it is relatively lightweight compared to products of the same level. Another major change in the OnePlus 8T is the screen. It features a 6.55-inch 2,400 x 1,080 Fluid AMOLED panel with a hole in the upper left corner. The refresh rate is 120 Hz. Not only that, it also supports 8,192 levels of automatic brightness adjustment (the number of levels is twice that of the OnePlus 8), and the peak brightness can reach 1,100 nits. Content can be relatively easily read outdoors, and the ambient light sensor on the front and back of the device can also help the phone control the automatic brightness level more accurately. Users will not be disappointed with the 8T screen. It can play HDR videos on Netflix and YouTube normally, and the stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos can further enhance the viewing experience. The battery of the 8T has been enlarged to 4,500mAh, it is therefore the same as the on the 8 Pro.

One of the most attractive selling points of the OnePlus 8T may be the new Warp Charge 65 wired fast charge. Compared with the previous 30 W, the 8T can be charged with a maximum power of 65 W, so the specifications have more than doubled. In just 10 minutes, it can charge the battery from 0 to 42%, and it only takes 39 minutes to fully charge the phone. Warp Charge 65 is actually the same as Oppo’s 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 and Realme’s 65W SuperDart fast-charging solutions. If you plug in the charger of the other two mobile phones and the charging cable with a VOOC-related certification, the OnePlus 8T will also recognize it as "Warp Charge 65". However, just like the OnePlus 8, the 8T does not support wireless charging. The main rear camera of the 8T still uses the same 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor as the OnePlus 8 and also the same 16MP selfie camera as the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. In the case of good outdoor lighting conditions, it can take photos with good details. Compared with the black-and-white mode of the OnePlus 8, the black and white photos of the 8T look more like traditional black and white photos, with a better look and feel in terms of sharpness, contrast, and graininess. In conclusion, the OnePlus 8T is a great smartphone, it has high hardware specifications and delivers very good performance. The 65W charging and 120Hz screen are very attractive selling points for OnePlus users. In addition, OxygenOS, which has been well-received overseas, implements a speedy user experience.

Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Qualcomm Adreno 650: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 640 in the Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers 50% more compute units (ALUs). For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2020.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

SD 865: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in late 2019 and manufactured in 7 nm at TSMC (improved N7P). Integrates one “Prime Core” based on a ARM Cortex-A77 architecture clocked at up to 2.84 GHz. Three more performance cores are also based on the A77 but clock up to 2.42 GHz. Furthermore, four energy saving cores are integrated that are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture and clock at up to 1.8 GHz. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 6 modem (including 60 GHz mmWave support), a Hexagon 698 DSP (up to 15 TOPS) and a Spectra 480 ISP. The integrated memory controller now supports faster LPDDR5 memory with up to 2,750 MHz. LTE is not included anymore in the SoC, but the external Snapdragon X55 5G modem has to be used.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

6.55":

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

OnePlus:

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Shenzhen OnePlus Science & Technology Co., Ltd. was founded in 2013. In 2014, it launched its first smartphone. It is a subsidiary of BBK Electronic Corporation, a giant Chinese electronics group that also includes Oppo, Vivo and Realme. OnePlus specializes in the development and production of smartphones and other electronic devices such as headphones and smartwatches.

90.46%: There are not very many models that are rated better. Most of the assessments are in percentage ranges below that. The tested product is not considered perfect, but the sources give a clear purchase recommendation.
