Cheap no more! The Edge Plus is Motorola's attempt to compete with the best of the best the smartphone market has to offer. An assertive price and decent connectivity may look good on paper, however they are nothing out of the ordinary. But is it enough to go head to head with Samsung and Apple?

Motorola hopes the Edge Plus heralds a return to form. This first new flagship from Motorola in years sees the company rise to the competition in an attractive package that performs well across the board. There's one big problem, however, that holds it back.

Motorola Edge+ Audio review
Source: DxOMark English Archive.org version
Though a flagship smartphone (and priced accordingly), the Motorola Edge+ ranks as an uneven audio performer among its peers. Aspects of its playback performance are strong, such as its tonal balance, supported by good high-end extension and clear trebles, which add to its dynamics and attack. The lack of bass extension is a limitation, affecting timbre performance. As a recording device, the Edge+ loses ground against its competitors. Its good qualities — tonal balance and a natural rendering of voices, with good localizability — are countered by a number of issues, including below-average artifacts and volume performances. Both attributes are hampered by spectral and temporal artifacts in a high SPL scenario.

Motorola Edge Plus Review: Surprise of the year
Source: Phone Arena English Archive.org version
At the end of the day, the Motorola Edge Plus is… well, excellent! It’s an absolute joy to use, it’s fast, the battery life is insane and the camera performance is good. It’s a reminder of the great legacy of Moto Droid phones and if you felt that Motorola has lost its mojo with Moto Mods in the past, and if you don’t mind a curved screen, the Edge Plus has got everything to remind you of the glory days of Motorola. It gets our big thumbs up.

Motorola Edge+ camera review
Source: DxOMark English Archive.org version
With the Edge+, Motorola fans finally have a no-holds-barred premium option. The phone’s main camera can, for the most part, wear that mantle with pride: it captures highly detailed photos with low noise. Dynamic range is not as good as the best, but not bad, and despite some color saturation issues, few users should be disappointed with it.

Motorola Edge+ Review: Don’t Ignore This Phone
Source: Droid Life English Archive.org version
Motorola has without a doubt created one of 2020’s best phones with the Edge+. It’s unfortunate that Motorola tied itself to Verizon and waited too long to commit to software updates, because I think most have already written this phone off. If you are on Verizon, I don’t think you should do that.

Motorola's flagship game appears to have gotten rusty over these past three years of keeping to midrangers only. The Edge+ misses the mark in key areas - maybe not by much, but it adds up. Absent camera modes coupled with unremarkable low-light output, display that is okay, but not great, anachronistically slow charging, no proper dust and water resistance - it's just a whole bunch of things that we can't overlook on a phone that is priced at €1200. At INR75K, it's a tough sell against a similarly priced Galaxy S20+ in India too and even though the Mi 10 Pro and the Find X2s aren't available there (yet?), it's not like the consumers in the country are starved for choice.

Moto Edge+ Review: Nice Try, Wrong Price..
Source: Pocketnow English Archive.org version
Moto is one of those companies that is just always around, for better or worse. Especially here in the US, their continued partnership with carriers like Verizon keep them at the forefront of a lot of users' minds. But the last few years have seen the company focus on affordable accessibility rather than true flagship prowess. We all know they're capable of it, but it isn't until now that we see just how much of an edge Moto could have. So, let's dive in — this is Pocketnow and I'm Joshua Vergara, what's going on everybody? This is the Moto Edge+.

In the mid- to low-end market, Motorola was one of the biggest fish in the sea. 79% Motorola Edge Plus review: It’s... fine?
Source: Engadget English Archive.org version
On paper, the Motorola Edge Plus has everything it needs to compete with the best phones out there right now. The reality, however, is a little different. Motorola’s first flagship in years offers first-rate performance, clean software (once you get rid of Verizon’s bloatware) and some truly excellent battery life. Unfortunately, the phone’s marquee feature -- its spacious Endless Edge display -- feels like an example of style over substance, and could make the phone difficult for some to use. All told, the Edge Plus gets enough right to make it a competent flagship, but one that won't best its competition.

The Motorola Moto Edge+ is a sleek flagship with top-notch hardware. If you're looking for a phone with class-leading battery life and global 5G, look no further. If you're looking for a more durable device with better camera quality, you can wait for Verizon's 5G model of the Galaxy S20, due out soon, or spend $200 more on the Galaxy S20+, which also gets you a sharper display. The OnePlus 8 doesn't offer any significant advantages over the Moto Edge+, meanwhile, but it costs $200 less.

Moto Edge+ Review: Gorgeous But Living On The Edge (Of 5G)
Source: Hot Hardware English Archive.org version
If you’re interested in the Moto Edge+ and you’re a Verizon customer -- especially if you live in one of Verizon’s few 5G mmWave markets -- then by all means, buy this phone. Otherwise, take a good look at the competition. There are a lot of solid 5G flagships at this price point today. Ultimately, making the Edge+ a Verizon exclusive was a mistake. Moto should have made this handset available unlocked and on multiple carriers. Instead, it chose to play it safe. So much for living on the edge.

Motorola Edge+ Review: A Fully-Fledged (But Flawed) Flagship
Source: MrMobile English Archive.org version
Back in November Motorola resurrected one of the most iconic consumer products of all time with its new Moto Razr for 2020. The response was one of those rare thunderclap moments of universal jaw-droppage, from media and general consumers alike. If I were in charge of Motorola and saw that wave of misty-eyed adulation, I’d have redirected all my flagship efforts to folding phones, leaving the boring candybars to the low-end. Well … given how things have gone for the Razr in the time since, I guess it’s a good thing I’m not in charge of Motorola. Because for its first fully fledged flagship in years, the company is taking a more measured approach. The Motorola Edge+ is a curved-screen smartphone that prioritizes performance over aesthetics, power over gimmicks – a Moto Z or Moto Razr this is not. But after a few years effectively sitting on the sidelines of the high-end smartphone race, does Motorola have what it takes to make the Edge+ a winner? Find out in MrMobile’s Motorola Edge+ Review!

Motorola Edge Plus review: We waited four years for this?
Source: Engadget English Archive.org version
It's been four years since Motorola last launched a high performance flagship phone, but they used to be one of the top-tier android manufacturers (anyone remember the Droid line?) In the meantime Motorola has produced dozens of good but low-cost and power devices, but they're aiming for the top again with the Motorola Edge. Despite great specs, a unique wrap-around screen, and a big battery, the Edge+ is launching into a crowded field, and the $1,000 price tag isn't helping. There's nothing really wrong with it, per se, but for that price we expect a top tier phone, and with a middling camera and a few design quirks, it's hard to justify that expense, especially with the OnePlus 8 Pro starting $100 cheaper, and year-old Galaxy S10s available for half the cost. It's worth a look, but it's hard to recommend.

Motorola Edge+ Hands-On: Sort of Ultra?
Source: Pocketnow English Archive.org version
I know I don't have to tell you that lately these are some very odd times. Social distancing aside, from a tech perspective, this is the time when flagship killers decided to make a flagship. A time when the ultra-premium companies are doing more-powerful mid-rangers. And even the most popular brands are going Ultra, at least when it comes to their approach. Obviously no one could've prepared the world for what's currently happening, and proof of it is that back in early February, we got briefed about a product that was gonna be unveiled at MWC, and then that went south. And then delays kept coming and it is now officially two months after the original launch date was planned. This is the Motorola Edge+, the company's return into the flagship world, and also, kind of the flagship that a lot of people have been asking for, but not from the company we were expecting. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's go hands-on.

Qualcomm Adreno 650: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 640 in the Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers 50% more compute units (ALUs). For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2020.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

SD 865: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in late 2019 and manufactured in 7 nm at TSMC (improved N7P). Integrates one “Prime Core” based on a ARM Cortex-A77 architecture clocked at up to 2.84 GHz. Three more performance cores are also based on the A77 but clock up to 2.42 GHz. Furthermore, four energy saving cores are integrated that are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture and clock at up to 1.8 GHz. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 6 modem (including 60 GHz mmWave support), a Hexagon 698 DSP (up to 15 TOPS) and a Spectra 480 ISP. The integrated memory controller now supports faster LPDDR5 memory with up to 2,750 MHz. LTE is not included anymore in the SoC, but the external Snapdragon X55 5G modem has to be used.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

6.70":

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

Motorola: Founded in 1928, the US-based company mainly focuses on communication technology such as smartphones. The original company Motorola Inc was split up in 2011. Motorola Mobility got the smartphone division and was taken over by Google in 2012 and Lenovo in 2014.

The company is known for its cell phones and other electronic devices such as smartwatches, tablets and accessories. Motorola was one of the first companies to produce cell phones, and in recent years has also innovated in the areas of 5G technology and modular smartphones (Moto Mods). Motorola is also active in public safety and professional communications, providing solutions for government agencies, businesses and other organizations. The company has operations in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America and employs more than 10,000 people worldwide.

79.91%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
