Reviews for the Apple iPad Pro 12.9 2020

89.3% Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) Review: Fine-tuning the Flagship | Notebookcheck
Even though the iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) is cheaper than its predecessor, it comes with superior hardware. For example, Apple has equipped its tablet for professional users with a stronger SoC as well as a new 12-MP camera with a LiDAR sensor. The device is still holding on to the claim of being able to fully replace a traditional laptop.
Apple iPad Pro (2021) vs iPad Pro (2020): review
Source: Phone Arena English
For those of you that bought themselves a Magic Keyboard and an Apple Pencil 2, you will be happy to know that the iPad Pro (2021) will support them fully. You can still use the trackpad as a mouse pointer, the Pencil 2 still attaches magnetically and charges from the iPad. The iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) specifically will be a bit tighter fit in an older version of the Magic Keyboard — that's because the new tablet is 0.5 mm thicker than last year's edition. Not a huge deal (not as huge as it was made on Twitter), but I would still be cautious about the keys leaving marks on the iPad's screen due to the tight fit (ahem, MacBook Pro...). There were no new accessories announced, but it's worth mentioning that — yes — the iPad Pro (2021) comes with a USB Type-C port.

The moment — and it has been a while — since Apple announced the pricing of the iPad Pro one knew that the most obvious quip would be: too expensive. That’s a fair point. The iPad Pro (11-inch variant) starts at Rs 71,900 and goes up to Rs 1,16900 depending on the storage capacity you want. The 12.9-inch variant — the one you should buy if you do — comes at a starting price of Rs 89,900 and goes up to Rs 1,34,900. That’s a lot of money and we haven’t even gone into the “must-have” accessories to get the best out of the iPad Pro. The Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil will set you back by another Rs 40,000. So even if you get the basic configuration, you are looking at a cool net spend of Rs 1 lakh at least.

iPad Pro 2020 is a breathtaking device for several reasons, from its industry-leading design to its… well, industry-leading performance. Despite some improvements from Samsung, Android tablets still fail to lay a glove on the Apple tablet champ. With the iPad Pro, you get a gorgeous media machine that can now provide an immense productivity experience in the same package.

We’ve followed the iPad Pro since its launch some four years ago, buying each new model as they came along. With the 2020 version, there are significant changes to the platform. The big question, however, is whether it’s worth it: is this a good inflection point for an upgrade, and does it deliver sufficient capability and value for money? In short, should the new iPad Pro be on your Lidar?

The Apple iPad Pro (12.9) is a fantastic machine. It may be a bit unwieldy as a lap-based slate, but it takes on a life of its own when paired with a keyboard and other input accessories. The costly tablet easily outshines Android-based offerings and does a fine job of competing with Microsoft's Surface Pro. If you can afford the iPad Pro, it's the tablet to beat.

The iPad Pro is a premium tablet for sure as the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at Rs 71,900 for the Wi-Fi model and Rs 85,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at Rs 89,900 for the Wi-Fi model and Rs 1,03,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. But if you are in the market looking for a tablet that will last you long, cater to your everyday needs, and has mobility by its side, the iPad Pro is the closest thing, according to us, that can replace your laptop for sure.

So the iPad Pro is for everyone on the move but needs unfettered access to computing power and convenience. The raw processing power, especially with video and photo editing tools along with the power to sketch also makes this a natural choice for creative professionals. If you are looking for a tablet to watch movies and write emails on, then there are cheaper iPads out there. This iPad Pro is clearly replacing a high-end laptop and that should be what you are comparing this with.

Apple iPad Pro 2020 review
Source: Digital Arts English Archive.org version
The same is true for the iPad Pro – the only reason I’d choose the Surface Pro over the iPad Pro is that many design, video and animation applications either don’t exist on the iPad (Adobe XD and InDesign) or exist in cut-down forms (Premiere Rush). The iPadOS’s clunky approach to files, folders and especially moving files between apps is one of the few areas where Windows does it better – and working with third-party online storage whether Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive can be a right pain.

The flip-side to this is that if you grew up on iPhones and iPads, then maybe iPadOS will come naturally to you. And, of course, there are some things it can do a lot better than Macs can, like signing, scanning, and making quick edits on documents, taking handwritten notes, and more. If you are comfortable with iPadOS, then there’s no better mobile device than the iPad Pro. But having said that, this new model is only a minor update to the one it replaces. Because other than the lidar scanner, the two are practically identical. If you already own the iPad Pro from late 2018, I’ll advise you to sit this one out unless you think the lidar scanner will be a game-changer for you.

Apple’s new 12.9in iPad Pro is among the most powerful on the market right now, with the new A12Z chipset beating just about every competitor in benchmark tests, but it’s also one of the most expensive options in our chart. Source: Macworld.co.uk English Archive.org version
This is the best iPad Apple has ever made, and peripherals like the new Magic Keyboard make Apple’s tablet more appealing as a work machine. The fact remains, though, that unless you’re heavily involved in video editing or professional artwork, most people will be served just fine with the $499 iPad Air—although it currently doesn’t come with that spiffy keyboard. If you do need the power of a Pro, though, it’s still worth considering getting the 2018 model. On the low end, at least, you’ll almost certainly be able to find one for a lower price, and Apple’s new Magic Keyboard is even compatible with it.

There’s no question this technology is clever, but I consider it a nice-to-have feature. It is far from essential as things stand right now. Here’s the thing, though. Just as when you’ve lived with an electric car it can be hard to go back to old-school gasoline, so getting a taste of the iPad Pro mobile life can make laptop shortcomings glaringly clear. For an increasingly large number of people, Apple’s tablet isn’t just an alternative to a traditional laptop, it’s better than one. That’s abundantly clear with the 2020 iPad Pro.

We also go through why these changes matter in terms of Apple's master plan. We then take a look at why Apple would release this updated 2020 iPad Pro when there are rumors of Apple making a much better A14X-packing Mini-LED display iPad Pro later this year. And finally.. we reveal what we think Apple's master plan is and what product they actually want you to buy the most.

Lisa Gade reviews the 2020 refresh of the Apple iPad Pro, available in 11” and 12.9” sizes. The design is unchanged from the previous gen models, other than the square camera cluster on the back, which now houses 2 cameras instead of 1 plus a LIDAR sensor for improved AR. The iPads run iOS 13 on the Apple A12Z Bionic CPU with 6GB RAM. Base storage is doubled to 128GB, and you can get it with up to 1TB storage. As ever, there’s a cellular option, a USB-C port that supports monitors, SD card readers and more. Both have 120Hz True Motion IPS Retina displays, support the Apple Pencil 2 and are compatible with the existing Keyboard Folio and the upcoming Magic Keyboard with trackpad.

The 2020 iPad Pro is a terrific tablet that, thanks to features like trackpad support and some under-the-hood tweaks, comes closer than ever to feeling like a traditional computer. It doesn't quite get there because of some inherent iPadOS limitations, but there's enough performance and flexibility here that I've largely been able to leave my laptop to the side. Apart from its new ultra-wide camera and LiDAR sensor, though, the hardware hasn't changed much compared to the 2018 model. Because of that, this year's iPad Pro is a great starting point for people who want a more premium tablet experience, but existing Pro owners shouldn't feel like they’re missing out.

Source: Six Colours English Archive.org version
The good news is, even if you don’t upgrade, you’ll still get to take advantage of all of those new accessories for the new iPad Pro. And really, that Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro is going to be what we remember the most about this new iPad Pro. Unfortunately, that story won’t be complete until that accessory arrives on the scene in a few months. With any luck, our patience will be rewarded.

80% Apple iPad Pro Review 2020: Small Spec Bump, Big Camera Bump
Source: The Verge English Archive.org version
As I used the iPad Pro this week, I kept coming back to that LIDAR sensor. Not to use but as a concept. It’s a powerful and interesting sensor and Apple’s total control over software and hardware means that it “just works” to improve existing apps. But as powerful as it is, I’m not super sure a lot of users will be able to take advantage of it — it’s an extra thing they may not even use.

Model:

Apple iPad Pro 12.9 has been considered as one of the most beautiful iPads to date as compared to its predecessors since 2010. Some even stated that after a long eight years, Apple has finally decided to revise its quite fairly boring designs which has been released earlier. The reason for this statement has to be due to the physical presentation of iPad Pro 12.9. It is practically all screen in which the home button has been removed and replaced with uniform bezels around the edges. Apart from that, the thin and squared-off aluminum body of this model will definitely remind users of the gorgeous and scintillating design of iPhone 4. This model incorporates a 12.9 inches screen size which is 15 percent thinner and 25 percent less volume as compared to the largest iPad Pro of the older version, despite having the same screen size. Even though iPad Pro 12.9 might feel slightly massive in the hand but its lightweight definitely makes it manageable. Therefore, it is obviously undeniable to mention that this model creates a fantastic canvas for watching movies or even drawing. This goes back to increasing user productivity and overall improving user experience. However, Apple stated that the headphone jack in this version had to be removed in order to reduce the thickness of the iPad Pro.

As far as the resolution is concerned, this model provides a 2732 x 2048 resolution along with the Liquid Retina LCD technology which is similar to iPhone XR. The ProMotion technology delivers a screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz which definitely creates an incredibly smooth scrolling experience for the users while using the iPad and catering for a more responsive user experience. The most interesting feature of this iPad Pro has to be the much-improved Apple Pencil. Despite not being the best tool to navigate the operating system, this Apple Pencil was intentionally catered for those who preferred writing handwritten notes or even buying. The added magnet on the top of the iPad creates a safe place for the pencil to fit itself in and even gets charged wirelessly. Again, catering for an expensive user experience. Another applaudable factor within iPad Pro 12.9 is the incorporation of the Type-C USB port. It should be noted that this model is the first tablet from Apple to have included this port type. This port can allow the users to connect to two external monitors to be used with this tablet. This port also surprisingly supports Ethernet jack which caters for uploading and downloading large files. However, iPad Pro does not provide mouse support. The A12 Bionic processor which was found in iPhone XS and XR has also been incorporated within this model which has no problem powering the latest games and also performs intensive tasks such as editing in Photoshop and Lightroom. The battery is said to last all day after fully charged which again improves the overall user experience. Overall, this iPad does have its plus point but the choice of owning it depends entirely on individual needs and interest.

Apple A12Z Bionic GPU: Integrated graphics card offering 8 cores designed by Apple and integrated in the A12Z Bionic SoC. Compared to the A12X Bionic in the iPad Pro 2018 models (7 cores) and A12 Bionic (iPhone XS series) it should offer the same architecture with more cores.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

A12Z Bionic: System on a Chip (SoC) from Apple that integrates a processor (eight 64 Bit cores, 4 performance and 4 power saving cores). It should be similar to the older Apple A12X SoC but offers 1 GPU core more and maybe faster clock rates.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

12.90":

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.

The same applies to tablets in this size range.

Apple: Apple is a US company founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, the company is known for its innovative products such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, and manufactures computers and consumer electronics as well as operating systems and application software. Apple is also a leading provider of software and services such as the App Store, iTunes and iCloud.

Apple has earned a reputation as a company that focuses on design and ease of use. As for their notebooks, they are mostly in the high-priced segment, have their own operating system, but also run Windows on the newer Macbooks.

Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and has a loyal following of customers and fans. The company also has a strong presence in the entertainment industry, with services like Apple Music and Apple TV+. In 2023, Apple had an approximate 8% market share of global PC sales, ranking it 4th after Lenovo, HP, and Dell.

88.91%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
