We just recently reviewed the new Apple iPad Pro with the M5 SoC and it is a powerful device. Despite the passive cooling solution, the compact tablet is faster than many ultra-portable laptops, so many users will raise the questions whether an iPad Pro could replace a MacBook or a laptop. Especially the optional 5G connectivity can make a difference, especially on the road, where you otherwise have to rely on public hotspots or your smartphone. It is just super convenient when you can be online all the time. Some business laptops offer 5G as well, but otherwise, this feature is still rare.
The main limitation is obviously the operating system, but iPadOS26 made a big step towards macOS 26. This starts with the visuals (even though that is a matter of taste) and continues with the controls. All apps now offer the familiar navigation and can be moved around freely on the screen. The space is obviously limited in the smaller iPad Pro 11 in particular, but multi-tasking works better than before. There is also a menu bar by default, which is once again very similar to macOS. The file manager works well and it is easy to copy/past files from and to external drives (when it is properly formatted).
If you really want to use the iPad productively, you also need a keyboard and a trackpad as well. Apple's own Magic Keyboard is very expensive, but it works really well. The typing experience is very close to a MacBook keyboard and controlling iPadOS 26 via cursor is very intuitive. For daily tasks (like writing mails, web applications, Office suite, etc.), the whole experience is very similar to a MacBook. You should not forget that there are also powerful creative apps, which work well with the Apple Pencil.
This does not mean that the iPad Pro is a good solution for every user and the package is also very expensive, especially if you select a few upgrades. If the iPad Pro covers all your requirements, however, you will get a very powerful package with optional 5G connectivity and also a matte screen option.
