Cons
The Apple MacBook Pro 14 2026 M5 Max is a compact professional laptop built around Apple’s 18-core M5 Max processor and 40-core integrated GPU. It includes up to 128 GB of LPDDR5x memory, an 8 TB SSD, and a 14.2-inch 120 Hz Mini-LED display with a high 3024 x 1964 resolution. Reviews consistently describe it as one of the most powerful portable workstations available, especially for creative workloads such as Adobe and DaVinci Resolve tasks. Its GPU performance is reported to rival strong discrete laptop graphics solutions, while the overall package remains relatively light at 1.613 kg. However, reviewers also note that the 14-inch chassis may struggle with sustained M5 Max performance, leading to inconsistent results and throttling concerns. The laptop earns a very good aggregate rating of about 90%, but its high price and limited appeal for M4 owners make it best suited to demanding professionals.

The M5 Pro and Max chips are impressive in that they offer noticeable performance gains over the M4 Pro and M4 Max, which were already very powerful chips. And the fact that Apple has retooled them so comprehensively shows how serious they are about eking out every last bit of performance and efficiency. The rest of the laptop remains irreproachable. The mini-LED display is top-notch, as is the overall build quality of the laptop. Connectivity is fantastic thanks to Thunderbolt 5 ports, an SD card reader, and added support for Wi-Fi 7. Along with its breathtaking performance, if you are in the market for a high-end MacBook and have the budget, these new MacBook Pros will be fantastic purchases. Speaking of budget, these are expensive laptops. The 14-inch M5 Pro MacBook Pro now starts at S$2,999 – up from S$2,749. If you need a bigger display, the 16-inch M5 Pro MacBook Pro starts at S$3,649 – up from S$3,499. And as usual, these prices start to climb quickly once you start adding memory and storage. This 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Max processor is a remarkable machine, and it should be, considering the price Apple is asking for it. You’ll need to go through the online configuration process to get a laptop with this spec, and once you’re finished, it’s almost the most expensive Mac you can buy (that accolade goes to the Mac Studio with a 32-core M3 Ultra processor, into which you can put 256GB of RAM and 16TB of storage). For most photo and video users, however, a laptop of this spec will be overkill, and while the excitement of simply owning one may be worth the price, something lower down the hierarchy will do just as well, especially when you consider that you’ll undoubtedly need extras like a Thunderbolt dock, Magic Mouse or Trackpad, and an external monitor such as the Apple Studio Display to go with it. Buy one, however, and you’ll have the kind of portable workstation that once we could only have dreamed of.

When it comes to doing creative work, the name of the MacBook Pro is legendary. With this model, Apple has squeezed the kind of power you’d expect from a desktop Mac Pro in a tower case into a 14-inch laptop, and backed it up with plenty of RAM. It’s extremely expensive, but is probably the best professional laptop you can get right now.

The M5-series MacBook Pro is not just the best MacBook ever, but probably the best laptop ever. It doesn't really get anything wrong. It has a good port selection, a stylish and durable body, a great-looking screen, and around the best performance you can get in any laptop, bar none. Whether you go for the base M5 model or the powerhouse M5 Max, you'll love what the latest MacBook Pro has to offer. That doesn't necessarily mean you should upgrade from an M4 model, though.

I have long dreamed of having the one “everything” laptop—the one portable machine with top-end performance, a beautiful screen, solid sound, and a battery life that doesn’t quit. The M5 Max MacBook Pro is definitely the most powerful 14-inch laptop I have ever used. If the fans were up to snuff, this would be the one laptop I would be able to use for literally everything. We’re finally at the turning point where mobile computers don’t need to rely on battery-sucking discrete GPUs. The M5 Max MacBook Pro is really held back by an aging shell. Apple’s aluminum body is still top-tier, but there are many PCs with keyboards that I enjoy more. Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display looks great, but it’s not as good as OLED, especially what Apple has already showcased on its tandem OLED M5 iPad Pro.The next big update to the MacBook Pro may come later this year.
