The new MacBook Air may not be as seminal a machine as the recently updated Mac Mini, but it’s easily one of the best MacBook Airs Apple has ever released. It’s powerful, well-built, thin and light, has a long battery life, and is even cheaper than the model it replaces. Furthermore, it now comes with 16GB of memory as standard, which addresses one of our longest-standing and biggest issues with Apple’s base configuration MacBooks. However, it’s not perfect. The Liquid Retina display is starting to look outdated now given that most Windows laptops are steadily transitioning to OLED displays. Throttling can be an issue on longer or more intensive workloads. Also, having just 256GB and two USB-C ports is a bit miserly. Thankfully, none of these are dealbreakers and don’t detract from the fact that, for most people, the MacBook Air is all the MacBook they’ll need.

The iPad Air M3 is an iPad Pro in all but name, and is compatible with both the Apple Pencil Pro and its non-Pro sibling. It’s supremely versatile, able to act as a laptop replacement for when you need to do office work, and a sketching pad when you don’t. It runs pro-level apps, though the selection is a bit limited, and though iPadOS has its shortcomings compared to a full-blown Mac, if you can work around them it makes an ideal everyday companion.

Here’s the thing: Apple isn’t making base iPads or iPad Airs for the kinds of people who want to upgrade their tablet every single year. From that perspective, the iPad Air M3 makes total sense. If you have an iPad Air M2 or even an M1 model, you shouldn’t buy the iPad Air M3. Instead, if your seven or eight-year-old iPad has slowed down enough to where you can’t get what you want from it anymore, then the iPad Air M3 is an excellent upgrade. This tablet will last years to come, just like your previous one did. Sure, you could buy a used M2 model if you want, but spending that extra bit of cash for the M3 variant will likely ensure that your shiny new tablet lasts that extra bit longer down the line.

Apple removed the "iPad Air" from the back of this iPad Air. There's just an Apple logo now. Maybe it's a sign. Air doesn't mean anything right now in Apple's iPad universe. The Air is very good, and at the right config, this could very well be the futureproofed, more affordable iPad that's perfect for you -- especially if you're interested in pushing the iPad hard for tools that will need the M3 performance. Don't overspend, and you'll be happy. What do I really want here? I've said it before, I'd like these lovely keyboarded, powerful iPads to become Macs at the touch of a button. That would help me. And, sure, an OLED display would be nice. But the Air covers all the rest of the bases I'd ever need. I just can't justify them being super expensive if they're not ready to make the leap into MacOS convertibles, too.

More quietly than the iPad Air's announcement, Apple also updated its iPad base model to launch the 11th-generation iPad. This new iPad will be available on March 12, starting at $349, though it is open for pre-order now. Unlike the iPad Air, the 11th-generation iPad won't support Apple Intelligence, as it boasts an A16 Bionic chip. Apple Intelligence is only available on A17 Bionic chip devices and M1 and newer devices.

Apple M3 9-Core GPU: Graphics card designed by Apple itself in the Apple M3 SoC and, according to Apple, with nine of the ten cores. Supports dynamic caching, mesh shading and ray tracing.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

M3: System on a Chip (SoC) from Apple that integrates 8 CPU cores (4 performance cores with up to 3.5 GHz and 4 efficiency cores at up to 2.4 GHz), 16 + 4 MB Level 2 cache and unified memory controller that supports up to 24 GB LPDDR5-6400 RAM (100 GB/s throughput). » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.

Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world and has a loyal following of customers and fans. The company also has a strong presence in the entertainment industry, with services like Apple Music and Apple TV+. In 2023, Apple had an approximate 8% market share of global PC sales, ranking it 4th after Lenovo, HP, and Dell.
