Reviews for the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro ZS671KS
The 6.67 inch ZenFone 7 Pro replaces the budget flagship ZenFone 6 and, like its predecessor, features an innovative flip camera. The phone is equipped with 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and the Snapdragon 865+, one of the fastest smartphone SoCs around. Find out whether the ZenFone 7 Pro can still be considered a "budget" device in our review.

The Asus ZenFone 7 Pro offers real benefits over its predecessor, but lands in our database closer to the better phones from last year than to this year’s leading contenders. Overall image quality is satisfying and the ZenFone has no trouble producing good-looking photos under most conditions. But the competition at the top is fierce: missteps in the handling of high dynamic range scenes, significant artifacts, and a problematic bokeh mode drag the score down compared to the top performers. Zoom performance is much improved thanks to the new telephoto camera, but its image quality is not up to what we see from the best available today, especially at longer zoom ratios.

The Asus ZenFone 7 Pro’s unique swiveling camera unit means the same sensor and lens are used for capturing rear camera and selfie images. The concept really works out well, with the Asus delivering excellent results in many Selfie test categories, especially texture and exposure for both Photo and Video. The only real downside of using a comparatively large image sensor for selfie capture is a narrow depth of field and therefore slightly blurred backgrounds in holiday or group selfies. Most users will be willing to accept this, though, and overall the ZenFone 7 Pro is an easy recommendation to any selfie shooter, especially vloggers and others who frequently record selfie video clips.

The Zenfone 7 Pro was met with much excitement by our team - moving bits on phones typically do that with us geeks, and the Asus Flip Camera is about as unique as these come. The whirring action of the flip-up module wouldn't have been enough to hold our attention if it didn't carry capable cameras and there wasn't a fine smartphone attached on the other end.

The Asus ZenFone 7 Pro is a very interesting phone, indeed. In a world, where in-display fingerprint scanners, punch-hole cameras, and wireless charging seem to be the trend, this phone dares to do things a bit differently. It trades some of these “modern” features to offer users a hefty 5000 mAh battery, an exceptional 92% screen to body ratio with no notches or cutouts eyesore, and, of course, possibly the best selfie camera out there, for it’s actually the main camera system flipped up.

The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is an impressive flagship phone with a triple-rear camera array that flips around to the front to improve your selfie game. While it won’t outdo the best photography-focused phones on the market, the top-tier specs make this phone competitive with, if not a step ahead of, most other flagships on the market. Just don’t expect it to handle water or dust well.

So, in the end, it’s the flipping mechanism itself that steals the show, rather than the cameras it’s serving. It’s a striking feature, but it doesn’t guarantee great pictures. The Zenfone 7 Pro is a phone for people who want cameras that flip, not people who want the best cameras in the first place.

It’s kind of hard to position the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro in the market – if they were perfectly performing devices, then those prices could be rationalised, however as a matter of fact, there’s some lacklustre aspects to them. ASUS has to either really up their camera processing game in the coming months with firmware updates, or quickly reduce the pricing to something that’s closer to the $560 mark at which the ZenFone 6 was released last year.

It's no secret that phone-makers have been experimenting with hiding their front-facing cameras in an effort to deliver an uninterrupted display. Last year saw Samsung launch a family of A80 phones with reversible pop-up cameras. Oppo's Find X ($677 at Walmart) had a motorized pop-up selfie camera and OnePlus followed quickly behind with its own OnePlus 7 Pro ($680 at Amazon). Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus was also on board: Its Zenfone 6 had a camera module that flipped from the back to the front (and vice versa) and eliminated the front camera altogether.

The Asus ZenFone 7 Pro looks to be a top-end device, with lots of high-end spec plus some novel features that should entertain users – and it offers a flip camera to ensure that your display is notch-free.

The Zenfone 7 builds on the winning formula of last year's model and brings upgrades in areas where we found the 6 was notably lacking. The OLED screen is a most welcome sight, and Asus didn't just pick any OLED, but went to Samsung and got what appears to be a really nice panel at first glance. The addition of a telephoto camera addresses another pain point with the Zenfone 6 - zoom is now on the table as well, but there are advancements across the board.

The ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro seem to present a worthy upgrade over Asus' compelling bargain flagship from last year. We'd hope the new devices offer a relatively inexpensive path to a lot of performance and that trio of unique cameras, but then we don't quite know how much they cost yet.

Overall, the ZenFone 7 feels like a very solid phone with quite a lot of potential. The only thing of note here that I guess would be a negative is that it’s a very large and quite heavy phone, although it has reasonable ergonomics so it’s still pretty usable.

The ZenFone 7 Pro is built to defy the ordinary, according to the manufacturer. Its evolved Flip Camera provides three high-quality cameras front and rear – it is a feat that no other phone can match. The ZenFone 7 Pro excels at everything it does, with a pin-sharp AMOLED display, superb performance from the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Plus Mobile Platform with ultrafast 5G capabilities, and incredible stamina from its high-capacity battery. As for the display, the ZenFone 7 Pro uses a 90Hz/1ms AMOLED NanoEdge display. AMOLED technology is widely used in smartphones due to its great color reproduction ability and very deep black hues. Users will experience very smooth scrolling and enjoy true-to-life colors. It also features DC Dimming technology to reduce screen flicker in low-light conditions for comfortable viewing anytime.
As for the hardware specification, the device is powered by the latest flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G Mobile Platform, which makes the ZenFone 7 Pro the ultimate all-round performer. It features fast LPDDR5 RAM, and its UFS 3.1 ROM, the fastest flash storage, provides a massive storage capacity, as high as 256 GB. The ZenFone 7 Pro is also a leader in mobile photography. It features triple front and rear cameras mounted in the unique Flip Camera module. This motorized flip-up module is equipped with a 64MP f/1.8 main lens, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle lens, and a 8MP f/2.4 triple zoom telephoto lens, so it is easy to capture very good-looking photos. The ultra wide-angle camera creates expansive landscape photos that capture everything users can see. They can also take amazing macro shots that highlight every detail.
As for power, the smartphone is equipped with a Li-Po 5000mAh, non-removable battery that can be charged up to 60% in 34 minutes through the included 30W charger, or fully charged in 93 minutes. The Zenfone 7 Pro is 3G and 4G capable. It has a built-in GPS receiver and near-field communication (NFC) function, which can transfer content to and from other NFC-enabled devices. Furthermore, the Zenfone 7 Pro has dual SIM capability, which means users can insert two different SIM cards and use them simultaneously on one phone. In conclusion, the Asus ZenFone 7 Pro is an innovative device with high specifications. It targets high-end users who want a very good camera on their smartphone. However, because of the higher price tag, a higher budget will be necessary.

The latest to join the Asus family is the Asus ZenFone 7 Pro, the direct successor to the ZenFone 6 with some improvements. As far as the display is concerned, it is obviously larger, and the flip-up camera has an additional lens. There is also less bezel on the top and bottom chin of the device. In terms of the fingerprint sensor, it has been shifted from the back of the phone and integrated within the oversized lock button mounted on the right side. Just like other phones that have gone with button-based biometrics, such as the Samsung Galaxy S10e, the ZenFone 7 Pro’s large button has some give but is nevertheless accurate and fast in reading fingerprints. However, it does take some getting used to, because there are high chances of the button getting accidentally pressed.
Apart from that, it is worth noting that the flip-up camera takes up a bigger chunk of the top section of the back, yet does not feel large or weighty. When the phone is popped open by switching to front-facing camera mode, the gears and mechanisms spinning in the phone can literally be felt. However, it does not jostle the grip and is definitely much quieter than the grinding buzz of the ZenFone 6. While it does not necessarily feel heavy, at 230 g, the phone still weighs more than the iPhone 11 Pro Max and most other flagship smartphones. It is definitely undeniable that the camera flip motors are partially responsible for the weight, but the massive 5,000mAh battery also contributes to it.
As far as the display is concerned, the Zenfone 7 Pro’s notchless 6.67-inch AMOLED Full-HD display definitely looks sleek, especially given the rarity of smartphones with truly seamless screens. While it is obviously slightly bigger than the 6.4-inch display on the ZenFone 6, the reduced bezels make it look even more streamlined. It should be noted, however, that there is no in-screen fingerprint sensor on this phone. In terms of its camera, the ZenFone 7 Pro carries a flappable three-camera array, allowing the usage of the same cameras to take pictures on the front and back. The main camera is a 64MP f/1.8 shooter with OIS, along with a 12MP ultrawide camera that includes a respectable but not industry-leading 113-degree field of view. Finally, there is a 3x optical telephoto lens that maxes out at 12x digital zoom.
In terms of the camera performance, the main lens can record video in up to 8K at 30fps, while the ultrawide camera can capture video in up to 4K at 60fps. The photo modes that take advantage of the flip camera, like the subject-following motion-tracking mode and auto-panning panorama, return as well. As for the other components, this phone packs a Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G chipset, an Adreno 650 GPU, 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage (expandable by up to 2TB via microSD). Overall, it is definitely a great device to be explored.

Qualcomm Adreno 650: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 640 in the Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers 50% more compute units (ALUs). For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2020.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
