Case, equipment and operation - Robust plastic case
Realme would like to have just under 300 euros for the 7 Pro, for which they are getting a matt plastic case, the back of which is divided in two and the light refracts differently in each case, resulting in chic effects. The case is also well made and looks stable. At 182 grams, the smartphone is relatively light. realme has also had its device tested by TÜV Rheinland for reliability in everyday use.
128 GB mass storage is a good equipment for this price class, but above all the 8 GB RAM stands out, so much none of the comparable devices in this price class can offer.
WiFi 5 is standard equipment in this price range, the realme 7 Pro gets decent transmission values from its WLAN modem, as we found out in our test with the reference router Netgear Nighthawk AX12. The transfer rates are also quite constant.
There is no 5G, but there is modern Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC, so you can also use mobile payment services.
Android 10 functions as the operating system, above which lies the in-house real UI. However, the security patches are already 3 months old at the time of testing, so an update would be necessary.
The touch screen is easy to operate, the hardware buttons on the sides of the case are easy to feel and work reliably. The in-screen fingerprint sensor is located quite far down the screen, this should be considered when registering the fingerprint. Otherwise, the device can be unlocked quickly and with a good recognition rate. Face recognition can also be used for this.

Cameras - Decent image quality in realme cell phones
The realme 7 Pro comes with a total of 5 camera lenses, but only four can actually be used for photography. One of the rear lenses only provides additional data for measuring the depth of field and can therefore improve blur effects in portraits
The main camera on the back offers 64 megapixels, but usually only takes pictures with 16 megapixels resolution. This has the sense that 4 pixels each can be combined to one large pixel and thus a higher light output is achieved. At the same time, the camera can also take extremely high resolution 64 megapixel pictures in a special mode if required.
In general, images from the main camera offer a good dynamic range, i.e. they also show many details in very bright and very dark areas. However, the sharpness of detail is only mediocre. Compared to other high-quality smartphone cameras, the surrounding image looks a bit pale. In low light and high contrasts, we like the result well, even though other smartphones bring out even more details and a little more light.
A wide-angle lens is also on board, it takes decent photos. The macro lens is only used in a special mode, it has a rather low resolution of 2 megapixels, so it is more suitable for snapshots. Zooming between the single lenses is not possible, only direct switching. Also, digital zoom can only be used with the main lens.
Videos can be recorded in 4K and 30 fps, but in the highest resolution you can only use the main lens. Brightness correction and autofocus work well, details are still quite visible even in motion.
The front camera has a resolution of 32 megapixels and makes good selfies in good light.

Display - Bright AMOLED screen
The AMOLED screen offers a slightly enhanced Full HD resolution and is fairly evenly illuminated at 97%. With 508 cd/m² on average, the brightness is good, but other smartphones in this price range offer a bit more.
If you select the "Gentle" preset for the color display, you get a fairly accurate color reproduction, and a blue cast is not visible either, as we found out in our tests with the CalMAN software.
The response times are very fast, but the screen flickers at brightness levels below 100%, so sensitive people should try the screen before buying.

The display backlight flickers at 123 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 123 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8482 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Performance, emissions and battery life - realme 7 Pro charges very fast
With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, the performance of the realme 7 Pro is on a decent level for its price range, but the Moto G9 Plus and especially the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G offer even faster SoCs. The larger RAM even gives the realme 7 Pro a clear advantage over the PC Mark
It's questionable if you notice performance differences in everyday life, but the realme 7 Pro has no problems with the smooth navigation in menus. With very complex Apps, it can come however to delays with the volume control.
The microSD reader, which is designed separately from the two SIM slots, does a good job with our reference microSD Toshiba Exceria Pro M501, the internal memory is also fast, but the other smartphones can keep up, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G is even much faster.
The realme 7 Pro gets warm under load, but not hot. Only at very high ambient temperatures could it become uncomfortable to use the smartphone.
The smartphone uses the earphone as a second speaker and can thus create stereo effects. The loudspeakers are also convincing in terms of sound: They don't din at maximum volume and overall the sound is quite warm.
In terms of battery capacity, the realme 7 Pro with its 4,500 mAh is almost barely equipped when you look at other smartphones in its price range. However, the runtimes of 15:31 hours in our WLAN test are quite on a class level and thus the smartphone easily lasts two workdays, and with economical use also significantly longer. It's also nice that realme includes a 65-watt charger, which can fully recharge the phone in under 1 hour. Nice detail: The charging animation shows the battery status to 2 decimal places and thus illustrates how fast the smartphone actually charges.

Pros
Cons
Verdict - Only a small blemish
The realme 7 Pro is well equipped, brings a decent camera, is on par with the competition in terms of performance and lasts for a long time. In addition, the EU manufacturer even offers a 3-year warranty for its smartphone at the time of testing.
So it's a good offer and the smartphone looks good and is beautifully finished. The fact that the device charges with 65 watts and thus the battery is full again very quickly is also great and rather unusual in this price range.
The realme 7 Pro offers a lot of features at a good price. Only in the software updates the manufacturer lags behind.
The smartphone hardly has any weak points, but fans of regular security updates should take a closer look at the update policy of the manufacturer, because it looks like realme users currently have to wait quite a long time for new software versions.
If that doesn't bother you, the realme 7 Pro is a good mid-range smartphone that offers a lot for its money.
