Intel Arc G3 Extreme

The Intel Arc G3 Extreme is a fast mid-range SoC with 14 cores from the Panther Lake family for handhelds. The chip also features a powerful 12-core iGPU.

Features

The Arc G3 Extreme integrates a compute tile manufactured by Intel on its new 18A process. This includes 2 large Cougar Cove P-cores with up to 4.7 GHz, 8 Darkmont E-cores, and 4 small Darkmont LP E-cores (low power). The new NPU 5 with 46 TOPS INT8 and an IPU-7.5 image processor are also integrated. The integrated memory controller supports up to 96 GB LPDDR5(X)-8533.

The GPU tile includes a powerful iGPU called Intel Arc B390 with all 12 Xe3 cores and ray tracing support. In the Arc G3, however, the GPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz.

The third chiplet integrates the platform controller with 12 PCIe lanes, 4x Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 (R2), and Bluetooth Core 6.0. The platform controller is manufactured by TSMC.

Performance

The CPU performance in our tests is slightly behind that of the Intel Core Ultra 5 338H (12 cores, but with 4 powerful P-cores at up to 4.7 GHz). Single-thread performance is slightly behind in particular. Compared to the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which is also intended for handhelds, the Arc G3 Extreme pulls ahead by 6% in our tests.

The TDP of the Arc G3 Extreme ranges from 15 to 25 watts (Processor Base Power) and can briefly reach 80 watts (Maximum Turbo Power).
