The MediaTek Dimensity 8500 is an ARM-based system-on-a-chip (SoC) for smartphones manufactured using a 4 nm process. In terms of performance, the processor is in the upper tier and supports all current mobile communication standards, including 5G SA.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8500 features eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores based on an "all-big-core design" that relies entirely on performance cores. One ARM Cortex-A725 core operates at 3.4 GHz, three at 3.2 GHz, and the remaining four serve as energy-efficient performance cores running at up to 2.2 GHz.
The ARM cores have different amounts of L2 cache: 1 MB for one core, 512 KB each for three cores, and 256 KB each for four cores. The SoC supports LPDDR5x-9600 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Compared with its predecessor, the MediaTek Dimensity 8400, the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 offers higher CPU clock speeds and support for faster RAM.
The MediaTek NPU 880 handles AI workloads and supports mixed-precision INT4 quantization.
Connectivity options include dual 5G with a theoretical peak download speed of up to 5.17 Gbit/s, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. Video recording is supported at up to 4K and 60 fps.
The integrated ARM Mali-G720 MC7 graphics unit supports displays with resolutions of up to 2,960 x 1,440 pixels (WQHD+) and refresh rates of up to 144 Hz.
