HiSilicon Kirin XE90

The HiSilicon Kirin XE90 is the laptop version of the Kirin 9030 Pro. The SoC is an ARM-based chip from 2026 with 9 cores and 14 threads distributed across 3 clusters. A fast Taishan V124 Prime core (L-core) clocks at up to 2.75 GHz, has 1 MB of L2 cache, and supports SMT (2 threads). Four Taishan V124 mid-cores (M-cores) clock at up to 2.27 GHz and also support SMT (8 threads). The mid-cores and the L-core share 12 MB of L3 cache. The 4 small, power-efficient Taishan V124 cores (Tiny-Cores) do not support SMT (4 threads), clock at up to 1.72 GHz, and share 4 MB of L2 cache. The entire chip, including the GPU, can access 12 MB of SLC (System-Level Cache). The CPU supports the ARMv8 instruction set. Compared to the smartphone version, the XE90 is expected to have a higher TDP and thus offer better sustained performance.
The SoC also integrates Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 7. The integrated memory controller has 4 × 16-bit channels and supports memory up to LPDDR5X-9600. The integrated Ascend NPU comprises 3 vector units, 4 tensor units, and 1 MB of cache, and achieves up to 29 TOPS in INT8 calculations.
Performance
The performance of the comparable 9030 Pro in the Huawei Mate X7 is not entirely convincing in testing. Despite its higher clock speeds and greater number of cores, the SoC is unable to pull significantly ahead of the older Kirin 9020. The foldable’s slim design may be limiting performance. Such a limitation is not expected with the laptop variant.
The HiSilicon Maleoon 935 is used as the iGPU, with an expected clock speed of 692 to 933 MHz.
The chip is likely manufactured using SMIC’s new N+3 process (5 nm).
