MediaTek Dimensity 8550

The MediaTek Dimensity 8550, unveiled in mid-2026, is an ARM-based system-on-a-chip (SoC) manufactured using a 4-nm process. In terms of performance, the processor is positioned in the higher mid-range segment and supports all current mobile communication standards, including 5G SA. Unlike the older Dimensity 8500, the 8550 features an LLM booster for the built-in NPU 880, which is designed to accelerate AI models such as Gemini Nano V3 locally and without a cloud connection.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8550 features eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores based on an “all-big-core design” that relies entirely on performance cores. One ARM Cortex-A725 core runs at 3.4 GHz, and three others at 3.2 GHz. The remaining four cores are designed for energy efficiency and reach up to 2.2 GHz.
The ARM cores have L2 caches of varying sizes: One core has 1 MB, three cores each have 512 KB, and four cores each have 256 KB. LPDDR5x-9600 RAM can be used as system memory; UFS 4.0 is supported for internal storage.
The older MediaTek Dimensity 8500 is said to offer higher core clock speeds, an additional GPU core, and support for faster memory compared to its predecessor, the MediaTek Dimensity 8400.
In terms of connectivity, dual 5G with a theoretical maximum download speed of 5.17 Gbit/s, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, are supported. Video recording is supported at up to 4K at 60 fps.
The integrated ARM Mali-G720 MC8 graphics unit can drive displays with a resolution of up to 2,960 × 1,440 pixels (WQHD+) and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz.
