Should Samsung be worried? Compact Galaxy S26 rival tested in gaming review
Oppo’s new premium midrange phone (MSRP starts at $1,500 on Amazon.com) offers many features for a great gaming experience. Our review reveals that the Reno16 Pro features a bright OLED screen with fast response times from black to white as well as in grayscale, and long battery life thanks to its large 6,000-mAh battery.
However, the Oppo phone also exhibits significant SoC throttling in our review. While the Reno16 Pro stays pleasantly cool during everyday use, the case temperature rises noticeably under heavy load. The throttling starts off gently but significantly reduces peak performance after a prolonged period of heavy use. In our stresstest measurement, we observed a performance reduction of over 60 percent. You can find all measurement data and benchmark scores in our review.
The Dimensity 8550 in the Oppo phone offers too little performance for the price
In our benchmark test, the Dimensity 8550’s GPU achieved a perfectly decent frame rate on GFXBench; however, 31 fps isn’t really a good score in the high-end segment. By comparison, a Galaxy S26 achieves 58 fps here.
In the Android games we tested, the Reno16 Pro performs well, but after a short time, it shows signs of overheating inside the Oppo phone. In PUBG Mobile, for example, after a short initial phase, the Dimensity 8550 drops to just 90 frames per second on low graphics settings. Even on medium graphics (HD settings), we can only measure 60 fps. A Xiaomi 17T with the Dimensity 8500 achieves a much higher frame rate here. Even in Dead Trigger 2, we “only” reach 90 fps.
However, when it comes to truly demanding games like Genshin Impact, the Reno16 Pro holds its own. It handles the full potential of this fantasy action RPG on Android (60 fps) without any significant frame drops.
