Playground Games says the Fable reboot will offer 30–40 hours of quests and open-world content, while its life-simulation systems could extend playtime indefinitely. The RPG launches February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, with Premium Edition early access beginning February 18.

Playground Games associate game directors Will Kennedy and Craig Littler have revealed details about the upcoming Fable reboot. According to the associate game directors at a Gamescom press Q&A in Cologne, Fable’s main quests will take players roughly 15 to 20 hours to complete, complemented by an equivalent 15 to 20 hours of side quests and open-world content.

At Gamescom, Playground Games’ Will Kennedy told IGN about a total of 30–40 hours of in-game content, while fellow associate game director Craig Littler went a step further and stated that the game’s life simulation systems could run indefinitely.

While Xbox has shared numerous posts about Fable from the same event, none of the posts suggest the 30-40 hours of playtime touted by the game directors. Speaking to Polygon at Gamescom, Will Kennedy said:

“We have around 15–20 hours of mainline quest gameplay; we have around 15–20 hours of side and open-world exploration content gameplay. And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want.”

Someone else in the Q&A session reportedly stated that Fable is “not a huge game,” suggesting that it’s a bit too modest for the genre. Littler stepped in and said, “As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that’s what you want to do.”

Xbox has been fairly transparent about Fable’s current gameplay and systems, previewing an 18-minute walkthrough of the game at Gamescom that featured a quest through Bowerstone. Xbox also showed off Fable’s combat gameplay, based on the returning Strength, Skill, and Will system, and played it twice with different loadouts.

So far, Xbox has shown off gameplay mechanics, NPC interactions, and the entirely revamped world of Albion, enriched with dark humor and British charm, where NPCs can either hate or love you, depending on how you interact with them.

Xbox has confirmed the release date for the upcoming RPG, as Fable is set to release on February 23, 2027, on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, with Premium Edition buyers getting early access on February 18.
