September PlayStation State of Play leaks as next target for physical game protests

Many gamers anticipate a September State of Play, and a reliable source now believes it’s “incredibly likely.” NateTheHate updated followers on social media, adding that fans should expect news “soon.” Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is among potential PS5 titles to reemerge, but physical game supporters aim to disrupt the livestream.
The trusted insider says he is “Working to confirm the date” of the PlayStation showcase. Sony has hosted an event every September between 2022 and 2025. The earliest it aired in a month was the 13th, suggesting viewers may be in for a short wait. However, the less consistent Nash Weedle earlier predicted the 3rd as this year's target.
Sony already held a packed June State of Play, with PS5 games that included Marvel's Wolverine and God of War Laufey. Nevertheless, Intergalactic is among the first-party projects overdue for an update. Naughty Dog hasn’t premiered a trailer for the sci-fi adventure since The Game Awards in 2024.
When asked about the title, NateTheHate replied that he last heard a second-half 2027 release date was the target. If it doesn’t surface, Until Dawn 2, also revealed in June, could make another appearance. Otherwise, third-party franchises like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Final Fantasy all have additions on the way.
Sony's marketing is under fire
After announcing it would stop printing new PS5 discs in early 2028, protestors have inundated PlayStation’s social media. The August 17th Phantom Blade Zero State of Play was no exception, with disc emojis spamming the chat. Still, there is no evidence that physical game defenders detracted from strong pre-orders for the action RPG.
By delaying confirmation of the September State of Play until the last minute, Sony may avoid coordinated attacks. The most recent organized boycott was PSBlackout, which ran from August 23rd to the 30th. Organizers asked gamers not to use their consoles, log in to PSN, or visit the PlayStation Store.
