Development footage of Ghost of Yotei was reportedly leaked under unexpected circumstances. An internet sleuth decided to spy on Sucker Punch Studio’s Bellevue Headquarters to peek at Ghost of Yotei in development. Expecting to be heralded as a hero, the sleuth only faced widespread ridicule.
The individual uploaded the post on Reddit, which was swiftly taken down. The post showed the individual peering through office windows of Sucker Punch Studios and catching a glimpse of what appeared to be Ghost of Yotei. The Redditor captured the footage from a hotel room overlooking the studio’s City Center Plaza in Washington.
While the redditor proudly posted the leak on Reddit, expecting praise for their endeavor, they were met with scorn instead from a variety of users. The timing of this amateur espionage was met with ridicule as Sony has already announced that “Ghost of Yotei’s official State of Play, scheduled for July 10, 2025, will feature nearly 20 minutes of gameplay.” Moreover, the State of Play will be hosted by Sucker Punch’s creative directors, Nate Fox and Jason Conell.
Aside from ridicule and laughter, one redditor emphasized the ethical implications, stating that “No one deserves their privacy to be ruined so we can see sneak peeks of video games.”
The irony in this situation is as clear as day. Ghost of Yotei was announced on September 25, 2024, featuring a mix of in-game footage and cutscenes. A follow-up trailer was released on 23 April 2025, offering insight into the story and villains of Ghost of Yotei.
So far, we know that Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. The game is set in 1603, nearly 300 years after the events of the original game. Instead of Jin Sakai, Ghost of Yotei introduces a female protagonist, Atsu, who dons the “Ghost mask” and sets out on a quest for vengeance in the region of Mount Yotei, now known as Hokkaido.
Ghost of Yotei is scheduled for an exclusive PS5 release on October 2, 2025. Sony might release the game for PC in late 2026, considering their current release schedule for PlayStation PC titles.
