Fans of the Infamous series were given a ray of hope this week when Sucker Punch Studios' creative director, Nate Fox, expressed his desire to revisit the franchise, but stated that it will be a while before we get another installment, as the studio’s hands are currently full with Ghost of Yotei’s development.
In an interview with Game Informer, Fox talked about Ghost of Yotei's new features. When asked about the Infamous franchise, Nate Fox didn’t hold back at all.
Expressing enthusiasm for the franchise, Nate said, “I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy release, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei.”
Infamous debuted back in 2009 and introduced players to the protagonist, Cole MacGrath, a courier-turned-superhero. The game garnered praise, leading to the release of Infamous 2 in 2011, followed by Infamous: Second Son in 2014.
The series also enjoyed standalone expansions, including First Light and Festival of Blood, and has sold well over 10 million copies, with both the original Infamous and Second Son accounting for 7.3 million units. Despite critical acclaim and high Metacritic scores, the series has been dormant for over a decade.
Nate has worked on all three mainline titles for the Infamous series, and it wouldn't be surprising if the studio decides to revisit the IP. Although Sucker Punch stated it had “no plans” to revisit the Infamous franchise back in 2022, Nate Fox’s recent statement suggests that the studio might restart the Infamous franchise after wrapping up Ghost of Yotei’s development, followed by a DLC release.
As for Ghost of Yotei, the game has generated monumental hype after its PlayStation State of Play reveal in September 2024. The game is set in 1603 in Hokkaido and follows the story of Atsu, seeking vengeance on the Yotei Six. The game has a release date of October 2, 2025, exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 5.
