Despite the August 29th Lost Soul Aside release date, hands-on previews have been sparse. Ultizero Games developed the PlayStation Studios title as an integral part of Sony’s China Hero Project. With a curious lack of media attention, TwistedVoxel found early impressions that raise some concerns.
A poster on the official subreddit for the first-party PS5 game obtained an early copy. While met with skepticism, Liamkun11 provided enough photos and videos to convince readers. In graphics mode, frame rates often drop well below 30 fps. Stuttering presents itself, and the visuals are blurrier than expected.
Fortunately, the action becomes much smoother in performance mode, which aims for 60 fps. However, Liamkun11 notes that texture quality is uneven with either setting. Also, camera movement and walking animations appear awkward.
As the gamer spent more time with Lost Soul Aside, his opinions grew more positive. Strangely, performance seemed to improve after progressing past the early stages. Combat is also a high point, with fluid battles that Liamkun11 calls “less repetitive than Final Fantasy XVI.”
Why Lost Soul Aside is significant for Sony PlayStation
The action RPG originated in 2014, as an individual endeavor by Yang Bing. Sony embraced his effort, and it became integral to the company’s efforts to encourage Chinese developers. Even with its significance to the China Hero Project, gamers are left with many questions as the Lost Soul Aside release date approaches.
Whether the extended development cycle was long enough may not become clear until Lost Soul Aside reviews surface. The PlayStation-published PS5 game will also launch on PCs on August 29th, with system requirements posted. Features like DLSS 4 upscaling and frame generation could stabilize frame rates on desktops and laptops.
