What started as a measure to contain China’s access to advanced AI GPUs has now affected gamers. Nvidia has reportedly halted the sales of RTX 5090D in China. The information circulating on the Chinese Board Channels alleges that Nvidia is no longer taking any orders for the RTX 5090D GPU. The company appears to have halted shipments of RTX 5090D to AIB partners.
For now, the RTX 5090D ban seems to only be for Q2’25. So, during the ongoing quarter, Nvidia is neither accepting new RTX 5090D orders nor delivering the already ordered GPUs.
In other words, at least in the current quarter, Chinese gamers won’t be able to buy any RTX 5090D. This latest development, if true, worsens the already bad GPU market where current-gen cards from the RTX 50 and Radeon RX 9000 series are practically impossible to find at MSRP.
Nvidia has shared no official word regarding the alleged ban on the RTX 5090D sales in China. So, details are still scarce.
RTX 5090 vs RTX 5090D
Unlike the RTX 4090 and the RTX 4090D, Nvidia has decided against segmenting the RTX 5090 and the RTX 5090D based on specs. So, where the RTX 4090D had fewer CUDA cores and a lower TDP, the RTX 5090D is on parity with the RTX 5090 in terms of hardware.
