Marvel's Wolverine PS5 disc leaks before release date, producing livestreamed gameplay

Insomniac Games is no stranger to leaks, having suffered a major 2023 data breach. A playable Marvel’s Wolverine build supplied early gameplay footage. Now scenes from the retail version are being broadcast. A player who acquired a PS5 disc more than 10 days before its release date continues to spoil any surprises.

Short-lived streams

TheGamer explained that the individual livestreamed the PS5-exclusive game on Twitch on September 4th and 5th. Under the username blackmisk1, the site flagged and removed the channel for a copyright violation. However, the takedown came after exposing gameplay mechanics and sizable portions of the narrative.

Determined to capitalize on the early access, blackmisk1 also leaked content on TikTok and Kick. How the player obtained the physical game so far ahead of the Marvel’s Wolverine release date isn’t entirely clear. Still, Twitch viewers believe that the broadcaster is an Amazon delivery driver.

A popular theory is that the employee stumbled on a stash of Wolverine PS5 discs en route to the storefront. Unable to resist the temptation, the suspect stole at least one retail case from a truck.

Less leaks in the digital age?

PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox have all experienced the ramifications of shipping first-party titles in advance. Sony hopes to reduce these incidents by transitioning away from physical games in early 2028. Nevertheless, the 2023 Insomniac hack and GTA 6 Cyberleek saga show how even digital files are vunerable.

What’s different about the streamer flaunting the Wolverine PS5 disc is that it represents the final build, or close to it. That said, blackmisk1 isn't the only source revealing details not disclosed in trailers or hands-on previews. A dataminer shared all 32 suits players can use to stylize Logan, complete with variations.

Fans desperate to avoid story spoilers should be cautious when browsing social media. Recently, a Reddit poster leaked the full plot before receiving another copyright strike.
