GTA 6 gameplay and map leaks see DMCA strikes, as confidence grows in their legitimacy

As gamers wait for the August 27th Netflix Extended Look, authentic GTA 6 leaks may have surfaced. An individual released multiple videos, claiming to show in-game footage. A map revealing the entire open-world game has also spread on social media.
It's advised not to share the footage
While there was initial skepticism, the reaction of Rockstar Games could indicate the gameplay footage is legitimate. On X, videotech received a copy of a DMCA takedown notice the studio sent to one gamer. Numerous posts with the GTA 6 map and clips suddenly disappeared from social media.
The first video appeared on the Streamable platform and, as of now, has survived. It depicts Jason walking around a deck outside a home before jumping down to a basketball court. He then attempts several shots unsuccessfully before the clip ends.
Soon after, a gameplay excerpt emerged of Jason driving recklessly on a highway. He collides with a truck, prompting him to leave the vehicle. The accident takes a dark turn, as Jason pummels the driver with a wrench in a fit of road rage.
If that wasn’t enough, a GTA 6 map that charts five counties of Leonida began circulating. Lummox, Leonard, Kelly, Vice Dale, and Mariana are areas players may be able to explore on the November 19th release date. Lummox was not identified in any previous information shared about the game.
Legit leaks finally?
The consensus is that the leaked videos look too convincing to be products of generative AI. At the same time, they most likely represent an older build of the Rockstar project. In 2022, the studio took action when around 90 samples were stolen in a data breach and posted online.
In some cases, Rockstar has also pursued copyright violations involving fake creations. Still, the urgency to scrub social media of the latest GTA 6 leak is raising eyebrows.
