Rockstar Games officially acknowledges GTA 6 hack; game to be released as per schedule
Yesterday the whole world witnessed what is arguably one of the largest leaks from the gaming industry. Hackers managed to get their hands on a ton of GTA 6 development footage and released it for all the world to see. Although Rockstar has since issued DMCA strikes to many channels, others are still up and running. If the DMCA strikes weren't proof enough of the leak's legitimacy, Rockstar Games has now officially issued a statement about the matter.
A Tweet from Rockstar Game's official handle states that the company suffered a network breach and that "confidential information" was stolen from their systems, including the GTA 6 development videos all over the internet. Rumour has it that some code was also stolen from GTA 6 and GTA V. Someone reportedly bought the latter (which included the entire source code) for US$100,000 worth of Bitcoin, but both pieces of information remain unconfirmed at this point.
Rockstar Games insists that GTA 6's development schedule won't be affected by the hack and that it plans to "properly" unveil the game at a later point. However, that seems unlikely, as Rockstar may have to redesign some leaked elements from the ground up. Furthermore, the source code leak is an additional headache, as it affects both GTA V, GTA 6 and any future GTA games it may have in the pipeline.
