GTA: San Andreas gets a stunning concept trailer remake in Unreal 5, offers a peek at what next-gen Grand Theft Auto could look like
YouTuber TeaserPlay recently outed a concept trailer for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, built in Epic's Unreal Engine 5. The trailer makes extensive use of Unreal 5' next-gen graphical features, including Lumen global illumination and the Nanite geometry system for complex model rendering. MetaHuman Creator is apparently in use as well, with multiple closeups of a very high-fidelity remake of CJ's character model.
The concept trailer is interesting because Rockstar actually leveraged Unreal Engine 4 for its GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas remasters. While the remastered trilogy received substantial criticism for being buggy, it was visually impressive at times.
TeaserPlay's concept trailer pushes the boat out further with Unreal Engine 5. The updated lighting, reflections, and high-poly models offer a glimpse of what Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 might end up looking like. TeaserPlay's recreation of CJ, utilizing MetaHuman is particularly impressive and addresses one of the key concerns players had about the Remastered Trilogy - its low-fi, cartoonish character models. With GTA 6 still years away, this two-minute trailer might be the closest we get to it in quite some time.
