Video shows GTA 5's beautiful graphics on PS5 in comparison to PlayStation 4 and PC
Grand Theft Auto 5 and its multiplayer mode GTA Online have undoubtedly enjoyed an unprecedented longevity, which is why GTA 5 has now even made the jump to its third overall console generation. Although the upgraded PS5 version of GTA 5 only costs US$10 in the PlayStation Store at the moment, gamers might still wonder if the graphical improvements are truly worth buying the almost 9-year-old action game once again.
Digital Foundry now attempts to answer this question in its recently posted analysis video on YouTube, which compares GTA 5's graphics on PS5, PlayStation 4 and PC. Most obviously, the higher frame rates of the "Performance" and "Performance RT" graphics modes provide a much smoother gaming experience on PS5 compared to PS4, but even cutscene sequences now look much better at 60 fps in comparison to the sometimes choppy PC version (from US$29 on Amazon).
GTA 5's raytraced shadows on PS5 can also look better than on PC with maxed-out settings, but the anisotropic filtering on Sony's latest gaming console is not quite up to par and results in rather blurry street surfaces in the distance. Speaking of distance, only the 30 fps "Fidelity" setting somewhat improves the render distance and grass density on PS5 in comparison to the PS4 version. For all technical details on GTA 5's graphical upgrades on the PS5, please refer to Digital Foundry's aforementioned comparison video which is also embedded below.
