PlayStation 5 devkit images seemingly sourced from the National Communications Commission (NCC) of Taiwan have offered up an interesting reminder of what could have been. A PlayStation Store mailshot has reaffirmed that the expanded and enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V for the PS5 appears to be still on schedule.

After some bumpy starts in regard to getting a look at the PS5 devkit, we finally got to meet the machine courtesy of ZONEofTECH at the end of 2019. This was followed by numerous spyshots presumably taken from developer studios that led to the mountains of speculation about what the retail PS5 would look like, which we all got wrong as Sony completely surprised everyone by producing a giant black-and-white router. Tech tipster wellgamer16 has shared a whole feast of PS5 devkit images, which appear to come from the Taiwan NCC, offering a reminder of what a terrific devkit concept Sony came up with.

While there were some convinced the PS5 would look like the devkit, it was already accepted that something different would come out of the other end of Sony’s design studios, which is typical when you compare devkits with the final product. But Sony didn’t just throw out an ugly black box as the PlayStation 5 devkit, and instead we got treated to a conveniently V-shaped machine that with a bit of polish and a few well-placed LED lighting strips could have actually made the grade as a next-gen console. The final version of the PS5 does have a love it/hate it appearance and could never be accused of being a boring black box.

As for other PS5-related reminders, a mailshot concerning GTA funds in the PlayStation Store has been exciting gamers because of the mention of Grand Theft Auto V and the words “launches on the PlayStation 5 in the second half of 2021”. Yes, the enhanced and expanded version of GTA V is definitely going to be here soon…which is exactly what Rockstar Games told everyone back in June 2020. Still, with all the delays, problematic releases, and other unfortunate circumstances befalling AAA games lately, it will be comforting for GTA fans to know the PS5 version is still on schedule and hopefully with a 60 fps upgrade.
