Most gamers will likely agree with the notion that GTA 5 is an incredibly long-lived video game. After its official release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2013, the game is now slated to hit the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in all of its 4K glory on March 15. However, many GTA fans probably yearn for something fresh and new, which is why Rockstar Games has made an official announcement regarding the state of the highly anticipated successor to GTA 5.
In its latest Grand Theft Auto community update, Rockstar Games has now revealed "that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway", and that more information on GTA 6 will be shared as soon as it becomes ready. The reputable NYC-based publisher has also reaffirmed that its "goal is always to significantly move beyond what [it has] previously delivered", indicating that the development of GTA 6 may still take a significant amount of time.
While Rockstar Games' official reveal of GTA 6 is certainly good news for fans, the announcement also suggests that the unwavering success of Grand Theft Auto 5 may have enticed the developer to mainly focus on maintaining the GTA Online multiplayer mode with more content updates instead of rushing to release a full-grown successor for the next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
