Although the launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro was reasonably successful with reviewers impressed by the devices and their custom Tensor SoCs, both phones have been troubled by numerous bugs since release. A new issue has started being reported on social media and, once again, it seems to be Google Photos that is at the heart of the problem.
Back in November, some Pixel 6 owners discovered that the handy Magic Eraser tool had disappeared because of a bug in Google Photos and this issue was rapidly fixed. However, now users have started reporting constant app crashes after attempting to edit a photo with Magic Eraser. Both the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro appear to be affected.
According to u/pjc09 on Reddit, the problematic software update is version 5.76.0.425427310 of Google Photos, which was released at the beginning of February. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners who have not updated to this software version yet are advised to keep their current stable software until Google issues an official fix.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a workaround for the Pixel 6 Google Photos app bug just yet, with restarts and reboots not fixing the problem. While not everyone is reporting crashes with the Magic Eraser tool and Google Photos app at the moment, it is still clearly a widespread enough issue that is frustrating many Pixel 6 users.
