Take-Two Interactive is finding it challenging to migrate PC gamers to GTA 5 Enhanced. Although the upgraded version offers improved graphics and faster loading times, players are returning to GTA 5 Legacy. With the GTA 6 PC release date unknown, Rockstar Games wanted the enhanced version to keep fans invested in the series. However, incomplete GTA 5 mod support and missing features have led to declining Steam player counts.
In most cases, GTA 5 owners can upgrade to GTA 5 Enhanced at no cost. That benefit and curiosity resulted in a peak Steam player count of over 187,000 on its March 4th debut. Meanwhile, GTA 5 Legacy started to decline from around 184,000 daily players early in the month. While both versions now see fewer participants, GTA 5 Legacy has 86,200 supporters compared to the enhanced edition's just under 72,000.
When players are asked why they abandon GTA 5 Enhanced, familiar responses follow. The latest version supports many GTA 5 mods, but some tools remain incompatible. Significantly, it doesn't work with FiveM, making popular role-playing servers inaccessible. Another requested absent feature is multiplayer text chat. Rockstar Games may add this capability to GTA 5 Enhanced in the future. Finally, the title isn't particularly demanding, but GTA 5 Legacy has lower system requirements.
GTA 5 also recently left PlayStation Plus after becoming an Xbox Game Pass game. The move is not as significant for GTA 5 Enhanced since Series X and PS5 players were already enjoying its upgrades. Still, PC Game Pass users can choose from both versions of the game. Microsoft doesn't provide statistics for its subscription service, so player count splits are a mystery.
