PlayStation Store adds pricing info that makes finding PS5 game deals easier

It’s often difficult to tell if a PlayStation Store sale on a PS5 game warrants a purchase. If an older title has experienced a steeper discount in the past, buyers may be better served by waiting. To cater to hesitant shoppers, Sony is now showing the launch price on listings in some regions.
PushSquare noticed the change on the marketplace, which reveals what games cost on their release date. It’s common for publishers to gradually reduce prices. However, the PS Store previously only displayed the adjusted figure.

Budget-conscious gamers should still consider checking third-party solutions like PS Deals and PSprices. These sites track detailed historical data, including all discounts on PS4 and PS5 games. Nevertheless, without leaving consoles, players can see how much cheaper a selection is than at launch.
On the downside, this could make deals on targets with permanent cuts seem more enticing than they actually are. Equally important is knowing whether a current offer represents the steepest discount to date. To that end, in October, the PlayStation Store began showing the lowest price for a game over the past 30 days. Sadly, the marketplace doesn’t share the more extensive histories available on other websites.
Drawbacks of the PS Store
In recent months, Sony has also made other moves that make browsing the PS Store less frustrating. In January, the company removed over 1,000 shovelware titles from a single publisher. That said, the catalog remains inundated with low-quality knock-offs, some of which use AI-generated assets.
Despite positive signs, PlayStation may need to do more to earn a consumer-friendly reputation. A sticking point for advocates is the lack of competition from rival digital marketplaces. Several groups have filed lawsuits, calling on Sony to allow digital games to be sold outside its own store.
