A freshly discovered PS Store app may suggest that a new loyalty program is on the way. Stockpiling points in the PlayStation Stars loyalty program to redeem for PS5 games is no longer possible. Even the most dedicated gamers often feel that Sony doesn’t appreciate their efforts.

When Sony announced it was ending PlayStation Stars in May 2025, it hinted that a revamped loyalty program was in the works. Gamers could previously earn points for their accomplishments and apply them toward certain PS4/PS5 games or virtual collectibles. The appearance of a Wallet Credits listing on the PS Store has some dedicated players anticipating an announcement.

What Wallet Credits might introduce

As discussed on the PlayStation subreddit, the curious store page surfaced recently. Players can wishlist the app, which lists Sony Interactive Entertainment as its publisher. A release date for Wallet Credits has to be determined.

A substitute for PlayStation Stars is one of several theories to explain the PS Store addition. While the program will remain active until November 2026, gamers can no longer sign up for it or accumulate points. That has left fans without a comparable alternative to Microsoft Rewards for Xbox. Only a PlayStation credit card provides similar benefits to its holders.

Another frustration for diehard gamers is that there is no way to gift PS5 games or subscriptions. Meanwhile, rival marketplaces like the Xbox Games Store and Steam do offer the feature. It’s possible the new app would at least let users send credits to friends and family.

Wallet Credits could serve a more specific, less exciting purpose. Redditor JDevil_ noted that some gamers had received an email offering $5 in free PS Store credits. In the email, Sony refers to the bonus as a “Wallet Credit”.

The PS Store could use some positive PR

Despite the popularity of the storefront, it’s not always seen as the most consumer-friendly. Shovelware continues to dominate search results, despite Sony recently removing a massive number of titles. Regional pricing also leads to surprisingly high costs for buyers in certain countries. Even for users in the same household, discounts on the same games can vary.

Other critics complain that the PS Store lacks any alternative for digital purchases, leading to non-competitive prices. In October 2025, the company added the ability to compare the lowest sale price on a title in the last 30 days. Nevertheless, a new loyalty program to replace PlayStation Stars would only attract more repeat customers.
