Update | Cash App offers 50% PlayStation Store discount on games after PS5 price increase

April 3, 2025 4:13 AM GMT update
Multiple gamers are reporting that the offer no longer shows up in Cash App.
Sony’s PS5 price increase on consoles was unwelcome news for already struggling gamers. However, buyers can compensate by taking advantage of sales on the latest games. Cash App is offering a one-time 50% PlayStation Store discount, maxing out at $50 in savings.
The PlayStation subreddit shared news of the deal, which expires within 30 days. Unfortunately, Cash App is a peer-to-peer payment service that’s mainly available to United States users. Also, not all gamers may see the discount, but the majority of posters reported success.
How to find the Cash App deal
If not already installed, smartphone owners will need to download the app from the Google Play or Apple store. After registering in Cash App, it’s recommended to add a debit card as a payment option. To save 50%, follow these steps:
- Tap the magnifying glass icon found in the upper-right section of the app.
- Search for “PlayStation”. PlayStation Store should show under the Businesses section next to an offer tag.
- Click on the offer and follow the prompt to open Sony’s marketplace.
All PS4 and PS5 games should qualify, even those already on sale. During checkout, after selecting Cash App as the payment method, new shoppers must link their account to the PS Store. Importantly, the discount won’t appear until funds are withdrawn.
The new deal won’t be of much help to gamers without a console. Sony raised the MSRP of the PS5 globally, with the PS5 Pro price suffering a dramatic $150 increase. Nevertheless, Redditors have been able to pre-order one of the most anticipated PS5 games, Saros, for half off.
Will more PS Store discounts follow?
It will be interesting to see if Sony becomes more generous with PlayStation Store discounts. Critics argue that the company monopolizes digital sales for software to avoid competition. The gaming giant prevents other marketplaces from selling game codes, but partners like Cash App can still provide incentives.
Sales on digital games are one way companies can counter the impacts of the memory shortage on hardware. Some analysts believe a Switch 2 price hike will follow Nintendo’s recent decision to reduce first-party eShop costs.
