The PS5 Pro is expected to hit nearly $900 next month.
Sony will raise the PS5 Pro price from $749.99 to $899.99 on April 2, 2026. Now, buyers are reportedly purchasing the console in a panic to avoid the $150 hike. Stock levels at major retailers are currently steady, but the increasing demand may change that.

Sony's recent price increase for the PS5 Pro (effective April 2) has potential customers worried, it seems. In the United States, the MSRP will move from $749.99 to $899.99. This adjustment comes after a separate price hike that occurred in August 2025 - overall, there will be a huge shift in the console's cost over the last year.

Now, fresh activity on community forums is pointing towards a spike in purchases. Users on platforms like Reddit are documenting the purchases of their new PS5 Pros, and they say the upcoming price change is the primary motivator. Basically, these buyers are simply securing the hardware at the current price to bypass the additional $150 expense.

The price change itself is linked to rising manufacturing costs. High demand for memory components in other sectors has led to a shortage that is also impacting console production now, alongside PC components. Sony is likely timing this to stabilize margins before the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected to generate a lot of hardware demand regardless of price points.

For reference, the price adjustments aren't just limited to the high-end Pro model - rather, the changes apply to a major section of the PlayStation ecosystem. Both the standard PS5 with a disc drive and the Digital Edition will see a $100 increase, while the PlayStation Portal remote player (curr. $200 on Amazon) will jump by $50.

Current retail inventory is still available at the $749.99 price point. Consumers have a window of a few days to complete a purchase before the $899.99 standard is applied globally. While stock is currently in place, the recent increase in sales volume could potentially lead to temporary shortages before the April 2 deadline.
