Slay the Spire 2 reverses course: New patch rolls back criticized changes

Slay the Spire 2 has received a new update in beta patch v0.101.0, which rolls back some of the most controversial changes from the previous beta patch. With it, MegaCrit is responding to heavy criticism from the community. Many players felt that after the update, not only were individual cards balanced less effectively, but entire classes and encounters had suddenly become more frustrating or simply less fun to play.
One central point of criticism was the rework of Prepared. For many players, the card is part of the core identity of the Silent class because it supports flexible turns and typical Discard and Sly playstyles built around deliberately discarding cards. For many players, the change to the card felt like an attack on the class’s overall identity. While the developers still see a balance issue with certain Sly strategies, the Steam post makes clear that the way the nerf was implemented was apparently the wrong approach. Instead of interfering with the core feel of the class, the problem is supposed to be addressed in a more targeted way in the future. The situation is similar with the cards Borrowed Time and Capture Spirit. In the case of Borrowed Time, the developers even emphasize in the Steam post that the card should be fun in all decks and may need to be completely rethought later on.
Beyond frustration with cards, players also criticized encounter and difficulty changes. Enemies such as Doormaker and Skulking Colony were seen by parts of the community as too random or simply overly punishing. Other system changes, such as very early elite fights or additional difficulty through Gloom, also came under fire because they made the game harder, but not in a way players found interesting or fair. Beta patch v0.101.0 rolls back exactly those changes, along with several additional adjustments meant to make runs fairer and less frustrating again.
Community relieved
On Reddit, the mood is mostly positive, with many players expressing relief. Many see the patch as an important correction and praise MegaCrit for reacting quickly and for explaining the reasons behind the changes more transparently this time. The card Prepared remains a point of discussion: part of the community is happy to see it return, while others still consider it too strong.
