Leaker reveals 3D Mario Switch 2 release date in 2027, but Zelda game coming sooner

Trusted leaker NateTheHate has unleashed a barrage of news about upcoming Switch 2 titles. Fans expecting a 2026 release date for a 3D Mario game will not be celebrating. On the other hand, a new Zelda remake may become one of the most anticipated holiday arrivals.
When will the new Mario game finally appear?
When discussing the gaming giant’s schedule on a new podcast, NateTheHate gave an update on the Super Mario Odyssey follow-up. Unfortunately, he confidently said, “3D Mario will be releasing in 2027.”
Even though Nintendo has yet to confirm the project, some hopefuls believed it would debut sooner. It has been nearly 10 years since Super Mario Odyssey came to the original handheld. There was also speculation that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiere in early April would kick off marketing for the Switch 2 game.
After a promising launch for the console, Nintendo has shipped fewer appealing console exclusive titles. As sales have slowed, gamers have wondered what it has in store for the critical holiday season. The industry recently learned that Pokémon Winds and Waves wouldn’t surface until 2027. If a new 3D Mario game is not in the cards either, another legendary franchise could take center stage.
A new Zelda game awaits
Despite the Zelda 40th anniversary passing, NateTheHate explains that a major release is planned: “What I can share with you today, is that in the second half of 2026, approaching the holidays, if not the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2.”
Rumors had suggested that the company would remaster the classic with modern visuals. However, NateTheHate expects a full reimagining of the 1998 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A 3D version of the classic exists for the 3DS, but developers can surely find more ways to innovate.
Fans are already expressing regret about some of the latest leaks. NateTheHate also doesn’t envision a Nintendo Direct with first-party Switch 2 games happening until June. That said, the console’s summer lineup is looking more impressive. The insider pencils in Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave for the season. Still, a new version of a classic Star Fox game will likely draw the most attention.
