Nintendo has only offered free upgrades for twelve games on the Switch 2, whilst several other titles require a paid “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack” priced between $10 and $20. However, compatibility patches have been released for at least eight games. Despite selling over 12 million copies, the 2022 multiplayer shooter Splatoon 3 has been notably absent from the Nintendo Switch 2 – until now.
In an unexpected announcement, Nintendo revealed that Splatoon 3 (approx. $51 on Amazon) will get an update on Thursday, 12 June to optimise the game for the Switch 2. This update promises improved performance and graphics, though specific details have yet to be disclosed. Players across both console generations will have access to the new content, including 30 new weapons and weapon variations, as well as a new multiplayer map from the original Splatoon, which debuted on the Wii U.
Meanwhile, the trailer below provides an initial look at Splatoon Raiders, the series' first spin-off developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game appears to feature a single-player adventure in which the protagonist is stranded on an island and must explore their surroundings. Besides familiar game mechanics like ink-based weapons, Splatoon Raiders will feature a host of new gameplay elements, including fishing. The title is already listed on the Nintendo eShop in some regions, though a release date hasn’t yet to be revealed.
