Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles launches 30 September 2025 for PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch™, Nintendo Switch 2™, and PC via Steam® and Steam Deck, offering both nostalgia for long-time fans and a fresh experience for a new generation of players.

Square Enix has revealed Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, an enhanced edition of the 1997 tactical RPG classic. The remaster will feature both enhanced and classic versions, available across all major platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Steam Deck. The enhanced version of the game will feature fully voiced dialogue, an updated and enriched script, improved graphics, a revamped user interface, and quality-of-life updates such as adjustable difficulties, a tactical camera view, and an auto-save function. Meanwhile, the classic version preserves the original gameplay, offering players a nostalgic experience with modern conveniences like auto-save.

In celebration of the launch, director Kazutoyo Maehiro, art director Hiroshi Minagawa, and Yasumi Matsuno have shared their insights in a series of special messages. All three contributed to the original Final Fantasy Tactics released in 1997, establishing a direct link between the original and the remaster.

Maehiro expressed his excitement for the project, stating:

"I am excited to finally share with you all Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles! This is a project that began with our long-held desire to revive the beloved Final Fantasy Tactics on modern-day platforms and bring the game to a new generation of players."

The voice cast includes Joe Pitts as Ramza Beoulve, Gregg Lowe as Delita Heiral, Hannah Melbourn as Agrias, Timothy Watson as Cidolfus, Harry McEntire as Mustadio, and Ben Starr as Dycedarg Beoulve. Cody Christian and Briana White also appear in cameo roles as Cloud and a flower peddler, characters they previously voiced in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.

Community feedback on Reddit has been a mixture of enthusiasm and criticism. One user remarked:

"Some of the additions are great: UI improvements, voice dubbing, QOL improvements… But I still get the feeling it's half-baked. The 'enhanced' version of the graphics… doesn't appeal to me at all; it looks very poor."

Meanwhile, another user expressed excitement:

"Very happy as it never got a release in the UK at the time. Been waiting years to play it."

Square Enix has confirmed that pre-ordering the game will grant exclusive in-game items, including Ramza's Mythril Knife and Spiked Boots, along with consumables such as High Potions and Ether. A collector's edition, officially known as the Collector's Box, will also be available. It includes a detailed Ramza Beoulve figure (Akademy version), a Zodiac Stones acrylic art set, a Chocobo mini plush set, a pop-up diorama of the Outlying Church, and an art sheet set, all housed in a specially designed presentation box. According to Square Enix, the game is not packaged inside but will be shipped alongside the box when ordered as a bundle.

It has also been reported by GameSpot that physical pre-orders through Amazon for PS5 and Nintendo Switch will include a double-sided poster, although quantities may be limited.

As of now, Square Enix has not confirmed any details regarding the music. While the remaster includes updated visuals and fully voiced dialogue, no official information has been released about the composer or musical direction. The original 1997 score, composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata, is widely considered one of the most accomplished soundtracks in RPG history. A review on Square Enix Music Online describes it as a "true work of inspiration" that complements every emotional beat of the game.

With its balance of modern upgrades and respect for the original, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles promises to engage both new players and long-time fans on a variety of platforms.
