In Everspace 2, players step into the role of clone pilot Adam, who’s struggling to survive after a disaster in the demilitarized Cluster 34. His mission is clear: escape the DMZ, assemble a crew and chase a long-held dream. Unlike its predecessor – which is currently 95% off – the sequel drops roguelike mechanics in favor of steady progression, a continuous single-player story and a handcrafted world. Players can explore over 100 locations across seven star systems, including shipwrecks, space stations and planetary surfaces.
After completing the roughly 30-hour main campaign, Everspace 2 opens up into a rich endgame filled with new challenges and rewards. At its core are the “Ancient Rifts” – unstable tears in space-time where players face increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Those who prevail can earn legendary gear with powerful, unique abilities.
Action-packed gameplay with RPG elements
Everspace 2 centers on fast, tactical dogfights where smart use of boosts, dodges and a wide range of weapons often decides the outcome of a battle. Players can choose from nine distinct ship classes, including the nimble Vanguard, the heavily armed Gunship and the aggressive Striker. Much like character classes in an RPG, your choice of ship shapes your playstyle and unlocks different tactical approaches.
To complement these combat dynamics, Everspace 2 features a deep loot system that adds a strong RPG flavor and keeps players engaged over the long term. Weapons, shields and engines come with varying stats, effects and rarity levels, encouraging players to hunt for gear that fits their preferred style. Whether you're aiming for high critical damage or missile-heavy builds, there’s room to experiment and refine. A level-scaling system ensures that enemies grow tougher and loot gets better as you progress, making it possible to keep evolving your build throughout the game.
Reviews: Satisfying gameplay loop with weak storytelling
Everspace 2 was developed by ROCKFISH Games and launched in April 2023. At release, the German gaming magazine PCGames reviewed the space RPG and praised its engaging loot system, handcrafted world and impressive scale. According to their test, the main campaign runs about 30 hours, but completionists can expect to spend over 90 hours exploring everything the game has to offer. On the downside, the review noted a clichéd storyline, a soundtrack that lacks atmosphere and gameplay that leans heavily toward arcade-style action.
Overall, PCGames felt the strengths of Everspace 2 clearly outweighed its flaws, awarding it a solid 8 out of 10. On Metacritic, the game holds a Metascore of 81 and a User Score of 7.6. Steam users have been even more favorable – 86% of over 10,000 reviews are positive.
70% discount on Steam
Everspace 2 typically sells for around $50 on Steam, but until May 19, it’s available at a 70% discount, bringing the price down to about $15. According to SteamDB, the game goes on sale fairly often – most recently in early April with a 65% discount – but this is the lowest price it’s ever reached.
