Preferred Networks' new sandbox survival title, Omega Crafter, officially launched today on Steam and is already drawing a steady stream of attention from players. As of writing, the game has picked up over 370 user reviews and holds a "Mostly Positive" average rating. To mark the launch, it’s also available at 30% off, bringing the price down to $17.49 until May 28.
Omega Crafter was released in early access on March 28, 2024, and officially exited early access with its full release on May 14, 2025. This is an open-world crafting game with a few quirks that set it apart from countless others out there. You play alongside a programmable sidekick called Grammi - an AI companion that can be set up to mine, gather, fight, and even help build your city. The goal is to build and expand a town while fighting off creatures from a mysterious corrupted program, either solo or in multiplayer. There are multiple biomes to explore and enemies to take down while you automate crafting and logistics.
The real draw for many players seems to be the coding-lite system for instructing your Grammis. You don’t need to write actual code, but you can sequence tasks for them in a way that mimics automation systems from games like Autonauts or Palworld. Reviews from early access players suggest there’s a satisfying loop here, though some mention janky AI pathing and balance issues - stuff you’d expect in a game that just came out of early development.
As for performance requirements, they're quite modest, needing just an i3 CPU and 8 GB RAM minimum. It's built on the Unity engine and runs on both Windows and macOS.
With a discount running for two weeks and a lot of conversation already building around it, Omega Crafter is one of those launches to keep an eye on - even if it's not everyone's thing right now.
