As a part of Kepler Interactive's ongoing Steam sale, Dead Cells has received a 50% price cut on Steam. Despite its cartoonish art style, the 2018 game is incredibly challenging in a tough-but-fair way.

With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 resonating spectacularly with audiences, even ones unfamiliar with turn-based RPGs, publisher Kepler Interactive has decided to celebrate with a Steam Sale. One of the games is Dead Cells, an underrated title from 2016. It is as tough as they come, and its 2D pixelated art style allows it to run on any PC built in the past ten years, and even handhelds like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally.

In Dead Cells, you start out as a clump of flesh with no memory of what happened. You can pick between starter weapons or a shield, and the game throws you straight into a cruel, unforgiving castle where everything will try to kill you. Initially, deaths are inevitable, and because it is Roguelike, dying means you start over again from scratch. But you get better with each run and if you're lucky, you can get some really overpowered gear that will make the early game a cakewalk. As you progress, you can unlock some permanent upgrades that make subsequent playthroughs easier.

While Dead Cells is meant to be played a certain way, you can make the game easier with Assist Mode. It lets you reveal the map entirely, auto-attack any enemies nearby, make the game slower and lets you resurrect at a checkpoint every time you die. Doing so doesn't disable achievements. Hardcore fans would say that's the 'incorrect' way to play Dead Cells, but hey, you paid for it, and you're allowed to play however you want.

Dead Cells is now available on Steam for just $12.49, the lowest it has dropped to in recent history, according to SteamDB. While that might feel expensive for a game with pixel art, it can keep you entertained for dozens of hours easily. If that isn't enough, the $21.55 Medley of Pain Bundle includes the base game and all DLCs, including one aptly titled return to Castlevania.
